all i can say my hackmac is running exacty as a "normal" mac. every OS and APP update works. and everything just works a bit better than on windows.
it took me a whole month though while i reinstalled the os like 5-6 times... configure the elements and keep the system as clean as possible. now its totally vanilla, no hw emulation or stuff.
it was just an experiment but with too much success so i kept osx on my pc. its up since beginning of this year. 0 problems.
if i'll buy new machine, it will be a "real" apple.

I use two of these now, but the thing is, one runs into unfinished corners at the least expected moments.

Like, everything works fine with dual 23" Samsung LCD monitors. Hook up two 27" Samsung LCD monitors instead, and OSX hits the floor, can not even load up its desktop. A boot XP on the same computer runs the two 27" monitors without a single hiccup, so it's not like the hardware can't handle the load.

My next computer? What next computer? I'm set with these for life, they pack the sheer power of a nearly recent Cray. If there's anything these can't do musically, the issue is only between my (or the programmers') ears.

I've ran in boot camp and osx on my MacBook and they were within a few percent. Too close to tell really.

I had a hackintosh. It worked but only running leopard. It was a lot of work to get going. It wouldn't sleep and wake. Now I have a MacBook I'd never go back. It wakes and sleeps straight away when i want to use it and I can just install and update stuff without having to worry.

If you've got lots of time and patience then go for it. But if time is money and you have limited music making time don't waste it hacking stuff! In that case be happy win win 7, or buy a real one! The choice depends.

I got a i7 920 overclocked hack mac. Its a deviating experience building one, youre on your own for support and you won't do music for a while...possibly a long while.

However now its there, I still use windows 7, even though it actually on average (on my set up)more prone to crash than my hackmack (dual boot). Funny that...

Have you guys forgotten that it's unlawful to install Mac OS on any other hardware than Apple's. It's not cool to discuss Hacking Live or any other software protected by an EULA that specifically forbids it.

My old hackintosh has an apple label on it so it's ok. It's a genuine apple label too; it came with an iPod.

Update on my HackMac: I took it back to Windows 7. I run only 1 app on the boot OS. It's VMware Workstation.

Inside VMWare, I now have a Windows 7 virtual machine (with Ableton, etc) and an OSX virtual machine (with Mac music apps). Using VMWare's "Team" function, I can run both simultaneously, even network with each other. (I haven't mucked a lot with such virtual networking yet, but I'm about to.)

By the way, the number of virtual machines running in VMware is limited only by RAM. Given enough RAM I could very well also have some Atari ST MIDI programs in a third simultaneous virtual machine, and Linux MIDI apps running under Linux in a fourth. And all four (Windows, OSX, Linux, Atari) networking with each other.

I think this is the future. Not one OS or the other, but everything *and* the kitchen sink, working together, simultaneously. Once I get all the details right for the best performance, I'll probably post a long blog how it's done.

Thanks for the postings! I did buy a new MacPro 8 Core and i am more than happy with it, so no need for a "Homemade" PC for me anymore...........

Just in time for upcoming the mac pro refresh.
