Oh I see how it is... Wait till I get a job, and my equipment is dismantled from moving. Grrrr...

The parameters limit things a lot though... more creativity than time intensiveness...

I am a member of BUMA/Stemra but I can still decide what to do with my song. I put most of them under a Creative Commons license on the Internet. But I respect Ableton when they find it 'tricky' to use music from people like me

But I feel a little sad... I really want to try to do a demosong for Live. I love limitations and deadlines!

The problem with performingrights organisation is that they are a bit like the mafia. You cant live without them in the longterm as you see now with this contest.
Actually all musicians should be members of this kind of organisations..but not like now as blind and dumb cows...
Musicans should start to organize themself and try to change the performing rights organisations from the inside. These performingright organisations take care for all kinds of musicans...therefore they are like a mirror of society...but...opposite to society there was never any revolutions or unions that fought for the rights of the little musican...So think about a society where only the kapitalistic industries had a vote without resistance of the public and you have the wright immage about what this performingrights organisations are alike these days...
Us musicans have to start doing something...Its time to fight for our right to .... party ?

Huh? Maybe I've completely misunderstood your post, but really, the performing rights orgs around the world are our friends. Without them, most musicians (apart from major global popstars) would make very little money at all. Face it, most musicians aren't interested/capable in the business world. The performing rights organisations make sure you get paid and the fees they take from the collective royalty pool are miniscule for what they actually do.

The performingrights organisations was ment to be our friends , but because the nice friendly and lazzy musicans are not taking theire part in fighting for theire rights the situation is becoming more and more publishing and jinglemaker friendly while musicans especially in the modern electronic dancestyles get maybe 20% of what they should get...
at least in germany...but i heard that the situation might be worse in other countrys...
Its time to do something...

Few clarifications needed re the hard comp.

1) When you say that we can't use 3rd party library samples, do you just mean those samples which are commercially sold?? In other words, are the samples given away in Computer Music OK, or do we need to use solely the included Ableton ones (and any that we have made ourselves)?

2) To confirm that I understand correctly regarding the use of VST instruments, is it ok to use a VST in a midi track then bounce it down to an audio track for the final version??

3) Is it also ok to use a non Ableton effect on an audio track and then bounce that down to another track for submission?
