Now for some good: Ableton is really better for actually producing because of all the small things they got right. Yet for me in the end its very mixed. And I just HATE the design, and flat design is just stupid for a program like this where you spend hours tweaking small buttons. I really really miss Reason's design. Then again, Reason has a lot of big limitations (not supporting VST's is one, also Refills are stupid).
Please accept the solutions as you get them and cross them off in this initial post, so we can focus on the stuff that doesn't have obvious solutions.
What Live version are you using anyway?

I couldn't disagree with you more. The minimalistic interface is one big reason I use Live instead of Logic. I've used Reason too, but have no updated opinion on it.

I agree. To me Live has a good look. And you can change the skins to get a different color scheme.

Now, we all know that you can't say anything nice about live w/o being a fanboi
I like the look too. I think it's simple, and gets to the point.

Andrejs
I really like the majority of how Live is designed, but this is something that needs to be addressed.

lpadre wrote:8. You cant enter exact values. This is a HUGE deal for a lot of people apparently, yet Ableton couldnt figure it out for 9 versions. Like I want something at 15db but Ableton decides I can only enter 14.9 or 15.2. Or worse, I have to fine tune something with a knob and it just needs very fine mouse movements like its a puzzle game???
i'm confused by this one. i've seen the behavior described with a MIDI controller, but anywhere i need to enter a round number, i just use the keypad on my keyboard.

gonna have to +1 this.
when i first opened Live, after coming from a Cubase environment, it was the minimalist design that attracted me to it right away.
i'm not sure that this matters as much as it used to... but i'm sure that at some point not loading a bunch of faux metal rounded/bezeled edges and such was a way to save resources... Live was designed to use in a live situation. when every scrap of RAM is precious the last thing you need is gradients eating away at RAM allocation.

Things like tempo / volume automation in the arrange view. You have to drag the breakpoints. It is a hassle, although when you press control/cmd while dragging it gets a lot better.
Most of the OP's valid points seem to concern arrangement view, not session view, as far as I can see. Natural for a Reason user.

You need to explain each point better. Try and use something like the bug report format and write as if you answer questions like:
- * Where EXACTLY are you in the app? If several parts have similar issues , name 3 examples.
* What type of item are you working with?
• Exactly how are you interacting with it?
* What is the behavior you expect?
* What is the behavior you get instead?
* Does this happen every time?
Personally I acknowledge this issue in some places, but then usually I find a work around like double clicking and entering the value instead.

got it.
i tend to use my ears for automation... 0 and 100 are about the only two whole numbers that I'd worry about in those situations (not to imply that others don't need this).
i do find the seemingly arbitrary numbers annoying on controllers though...

But to the best of my knowledge, you CAN'T adjust an envelope part with a value. Unless I'm wrong, it doesn't matter how many times you RTFM, you can't do it.
I think it's a good feature request. I'm guessing it's been asked for a million years.

Isn't eyeknow talking about clip-/track envelopes?
