in the studio i use - two faderfox lv1's and an lx1 to control live, a kenton control freak studio and a kenton control freak live to control all other instruments/effects - and a cme uf5 midi keyboard.
to perform i would use the two lv1s to control live , the kentons and the lx1 for instruments and effects. i cant wait to buy max/msp - thats when things will really become hot using the lx1 , the kentons and i should probably pick up a midi patchbay.
i've only just picked up the kenton controllers , they are solid as fruck and are seriously custimisable. I havent explored these possibilities yet folks. so far im just using them as faders and dials , but theres alot you can do with them. you should really check their website , as im too midi-stupid to explain things yet. you can use them as an instrument in their own right. there are 16 buttons over the 16 faders on the studio edition, one thing you can do with this is use the buttons as a midi note , and use the fader below it to set velocity. theres a screen on the controller where you can see exactly where the fader is set to (0 - 127). other things im aware of- you can have the action of one fader/knob influenced by the position of another , and so on. i havent opened the manual yet....heh
oh , and you people should check out the cycling 74 website , and go to the videos of artists using maxmsp page , theres a video about controllers there and the guy shows you a few different controllers you can relatively easily make to use with maxmsp , and the video finishes with a demo of lemur. ......and this is what sold it for me , he had set up a four track , 16 step sequencer. with an indicating bar at the top showing where in the bar the sequencer was at. it was frigging sweet , seeing as he would activate a step and the button lights up.......up untill i saw this , i was looking for a midi controller for this kind of control....all i could find was the doepler schaltwerk (spelling) , which is 3/4 the price of a lemur and not in production at the moment.
i think if i get a lemur , i will have all the controllers i will need for a decade to come
oh , and as for the faderfox being midi only , well all you need is an edirol um-1x to make it a usb controller.
plus matthias of faderfox company is cool , and the controllers are great...i truely think these will go up in value after a decade
