Let's flip the coin here.
This question is not aimed at anyone here in particular but it is something that needs to be asked. How would you do things differently?
It appears that some of the "soul" of music has vanished when it comes to stage performances. It's apparent that many of us expect more from a "live" performance, particular from acts that embrace technology heavily. Would less technology make an improvement? Is technology being overly relied upon, so much to the point that it has sucked the life of what once was a very stimulating and engrossing experience for the audience?
I agree that the interaction between people is more important than the interaction between man and machine. Unfortunately not every DJ/producer was meant to perform "live". And, not every "living" DJ/performer was ever meant to express themselves to their audience primarily through machines "live". It's a difficult balancing act to encapsulate the "soul" through music and also beam with life while expressing that "soul".
Some acts are in a better position to stay behind the scenes and let the "true" performers take to the stage. Not all of us are capable of doing both as the OP has eluded to.
Which one are you?

I wasn't being sarcastic. What I meant is, it's much easier to get into a faster, and better song. I thought this conversation was about how boring the
performance (not necessarily the song) of the first band was. Of course I enjoyed the second song more because it was a better track, however they really didn't do much either. My question is how can someone behind a keyboard or turntable get the crowd going? Head bopping doesn't really blow me away. So besides the fact that the second band's song was better, the performance was just as boring I thought...

Now I go from those two examples too this which IMHO is just pure fucking magic and then some ...........
The HotChip video was a better tune.
The first act just sounded plain old sloppy to me and the whole performance lacked conviction (yes even without the visuals up and having the screen minimized it sounded very sloppy, flat and non-dynamic IMHO).
Murcof - Performing RIOS off the album Remembranza.
The performance features Erik Truffaz on Trumpet.
Talvin Singh on percussion.
Once again not a dynamci thrash about performance.
It is however passionately performed.
Sounds beautiful and hits the sweet spot IMHO

although i do have to add if you are playing "dance" music (which arguably these guys are not...more downtempo), i would expect you to at least shake your ass a bit. but that said, laptops, samplers or turntables...i have seen many forms of dance music formats done by incredibly static, bored looking people...and THAT is the thing that confuses me.
i watched a dj recently who looked so bored, i can't imagine why no one was dancing. if he doesn't have any passion for the tunes, i dunno why he would expect anyone else to have any.

There you go, I agree that was great. I think it's all about having a great frontman. Imho of the hundreds of shows that I've seen in my life the only bands that keep blowing me away are Depeche and U2. I know not neccessarily dance music, but their live shows are alway pretty amazing.

BT's too animated with a 'lame' keyboard stand, these guys aren't animated enough. not a perfect parallel but it struck me as odd.

OK, I guess my tastes are completely different because I thought that performance was sick.

not odd at all tonedeft, you hit the nail right on the head, the fact is that it's all about individuality and relevance, in my opinion bt was not relevant
to that performance so it wasn't necessarily a favorite but he was way better than the whole 'stones' band without a doubt, and I know which one of those
shows I would rather be at easy.
