OK the italicized part here is what I'm talking about. Basically you make it sound like it's a limitation of VST, when you I think mean a limitation of Ableton's parameter implementation regarding VSTs!
and again what I'm saying is for whatever reason Ableton found it useful obviously early on, and pre VSTi/AU to implement MIDI automation of VST (and AU later) as 128. There is I'm sure a technical reason for this, as I don't see it being a frivolous choice.
I'm not trying to rain on people's parades etc. but this HAS to be some deep level coding, otherwise I think they would have changed it a while ago. Hey hopefully I'm wrong, or OSC allows them to work around their own MIDI implementation.

Again though, I don't see them working out OSC before they fix the MIDI limitations, but it's possible OSC fixes the MIDI implementation by sme sort of internal communication. Anyway off to bed. :)

MW - they're totally, completely different things. OSC implementation is just sending the status of variables down an OSC pipe, it has nothing to do with midi. I think you're right about midi leading to the 128 parameter limitation and OSC is a way around all that.

between this and the election I just want to sleep for the next year until we get some freaking answers!!!

I gotta find the date this was first announced...

Machinesworking... I don't really think we're disagreeing. I'm just not seeing how one thing (midi) has as immidiate connection to the other (OSC).
