Nope. I think it's safe to say that a number of people are as excited as you.

that was the biggest tease of the year I think. When did the "announcement" come out and no news since?

In the meantime FLStudio is bundling a real-time edition of Synthmaker in it's upcoming FREE (all updates are free) version of FL.

Robert Henke, the master mind super king brain pimp deity thing who birthed live from his effecient loins, said certainly nothing will come of this holey matrimony until max five is out and stable. Cycling74 are focused on that for nows. He also says what will come of it will be what we would expect.

for the quotes, check out that workshop vid that's floating around (posted by COSM)

A bunch of us Scandinavians met him (Robert Henke) briefly when he played in Copenhagen a few months back. We tried to push him to reveal something. Didn't work that well. :? But he hinted that "communication" between Live/Max might be something to expect.

I heard: "OSC - that's as definite as currywurst and weissbier".

But that's probably just wishful thinking. :D

Hey no offense to you OSC guys, but how the hell are Ableton going to implement OSC correctly when they still can't seem to deal with anything beyond the standard 128 parameters in regular MIDI??
Maybe, just maybe, they can work around their own limitation in MIDI and implement OSC first, but honestly how many people outside the forum would be fucking raging mad if they did that? They made some initial limitation in their MIDI implementation early on I assume that cripples Live from effectively dealing with NRPN's and anything beyond the standard 128, and now people want the 500 or so that OSC has?
I wouldn't mind OSC, but, I would like regular MIDI to fully work first. Sorry man, but all my MIDI controllers are not OSC savvy, and buying new gear to get beyond 128 is just plain whack.

interesting...

I assume it will be cycling74 taking care of the OSC implementation...
it looks to me that what this arrangement will achieve is better communication between the apps
perhaps this will benefit midi users too, perhaps some go-between applet/plugin that acts as a kind of macro for 128 control options provided by ableton's engine ? and then you could automate presets (via midi even) ? effectively providing total command of in excess of 128 parameters ? via midi ? yay ? nay ? maybe that patch has already been put together ?

but anyways, speculation aside, it's an interesting viewpoint you have because of the questions it raises. If they say something was easy to implement, like video support, well...taking them at their word, I wouldn't hold it against them with respect other major issues still languishing.

So, co-operating with cycling74 is maybe alot easier for them than getting out of the corner they have painted themselves into with the 128 limitation ? And as I said, it seems feasible that a macro workaround may come of the cycling74 ting.

/speculation.

While I think it'd be nice with a special "link" of some kind between the two, I'd first and foremost hope for some special Max/MSP environ INSIDE Live.
That is my first hope, and somewhere on the 2nd or 3rd place comes some OSC or whatever connection between the two.

Even though I have Max/MSP already I'd rather pay some extra to get some of it inside of Live - that'd be so much easier and nicer than needing two different apps.

midi and OSC aren't exact analogs of each other.

midi is an ancient 33kbaud modem standard. data has to be organized in a very specific way. OSC is just an open asynchronous pipe.

IMO OSC should be much easier to implement than midi.

I'm comfortable in guessing that whatever the implementation, it'll be pretty much invisible to the user. we're thinking at too low of a level.

Just be happy they didn't partner with Apple because they would get rid of both MIDI and OSC and implement some new protocol called Jobslets or some shit that nobody has heard of for which there is no hardware currently available.

And this is coming from an Apple fanboy. We do have our moments of historical resentment.

They just went to a low level with the improved audio engine and MIDI jitter. Hopefully some things were implemented at that point. Honestly though, and I know this has got to be painful, unless OSC can be used at a low level to implement more than 128 parameters in MIDI, I simply don;t see it happening, too much work for too small of an already small 'upgrade' audience.
