Forrest Gump was the opposite of myr though, ie not a piece of shit.

Most people don't care how smart someone is, more how nice they are, because then they can at least get along. That fucker's intent from the get go was to come here and offend solely for attention, ie troll, just like last time as 9V. I wouldn't disagree if someone said he was the one bullying. Repeatedly calling people stupid? Does it matter what the context is? Yet he has the gall to tell others they're "inelegant" while he shows his adolescent amusement of things that resemble cocks and vajayjays for pages at a time.... Yes, very elegant indeed. A couple times, sure, but incessantly? Throw a straightjacket on that bitch and call it a day.

What a tosser.

Yeah, well like I started to point out when breaking it all down - it's like some kind of collective liberal guilt or something...

maybe forrest gump was a bad example, you're right, he was too nice

back on topic... nathannn, check out The Power of Myth. It's an interview between Joseph Campbell and Bill Moyers. It takes place on Skywalker Ranch in the 80's. I first read the book which reads like a screen play as it is quotes back and forth... the documentary is kind of dry, but the content is really good if you're interested in this sort of thing.

Hey! I asked you why you wanted such information and you said: "I grew up In a dysfunctional Baptist family who couldn't answer my questions." And now you're all like "Boom! Biblizzle be whitey shiat".

Revealed, your true intentions are.

I feel betrayed.

The problem there is you're trying to prove a negative, to prove something doesn't exist. The even bigger problem is that what people consider evidence of God is subject to what they believe "evidence" to be in the first place. A devout Christian will tell you that evidence of God is all around us in all of the miracles of life and beauty in nature all around us.

When you ask why there's so much death and ugliness in the world they usually stumble around with some "well if God made it like heaven then there would be nothing to look forward to" kind of stuff.

I grew up in the church so although I don't believe in anything I am also not as brutally rude about it as the atheists you see out there. I'm agnostic really. I figure the fact that a human could even come up with the idea of God means there might be a chance it could exist in some dimension we have no knowledge of. There's certainly no physical proof of it in this dimension (again, "proof" to me is more than the fact that we are alive, but things we can measure with instruments [not Push]).

There's being grounded in reality, and there's being grounded in reality to the point of having no imagination.

Now the idea of an angry God is surely pure human contraption used to steer human behavior.

I enjoyed reading this, it was pretty helpful and explains how I also feel about the subject.

Funny that, I feel the opposite. I think if there's anything that even remotely fits our idea of God, it would have to be utterly beyond our comprehension.

For anyone to claim they know God's will seems ridiculous.

I'm atheist, with only the most miniscule sliver of doubt (which I have to accept, if I'm being scientific).

I try not to shit on peoples beliefs though. Unless they are looking for a fight over it. Eg. Someone tells me their religion makes them fundamentally a better person than me, and I'm prepared to tear into what they think they know.

But wouldn't that preclude the possibility of having an "idea" of it in the first place? :)

I think our thinking isn't as opposite as you say.

there's no time for this profundity.

we have people to convert to our way of thinking.
