Nothing to do with fanboyism. I just have a tiny understanding of how business works and am dismayed by much of society's attitude of thinking they deserve something because someone else has it. I'd love to live in the utopian paradise live users seem to expect. I'd be more than happy if ableton just gave me m4l for free because I own the suite and have used it since v4. Exactly what companies do you usually buy from? i'll be their fanboy if they deliver what people expect from ableton.

What, in your estimation, would prevent this heinous sequence of events? Just never have a sale?

I have no interest in M4L myself, so I'll be sticking with Live 7. This is certainly the run up to the real sales though.

Agreed. I just hate when people can't take responsibility for their own actions and decisions. Someone decides it is worth it for them to spend money on something and subsequently it is given away in a promo so all of a sudden they become a helples victim like they were forced into something. It is bad luck when someone buys something that will later be cheaper, but people really need to take ownership of their own decisions. Over time these things all even out anyways, sometimes you're on the lucky side, sometimes not...

Cross selling to existing customers with a better offer for M4L would be better, I would think that Suite customers that would like to have ML4 far out way the customers that would want to upgrade to Suite. First thing they should do is ask the customers, simple email asking, hey Mr. Suite if I offered you ML4 for $99 would you avail of the offer .... Hey Mr. Live 8 if I offered you free M4L would you buy Suite? Then it's a case of reviewing the data.

Problem is there is a pencil pushing Controller reviewing the bottom line and he don't give a shit about your music or mine. How do I know this? I was one of those "pencil pushing Controllers" in a corporate company :) :)

But yes it is a rant ...... We can't always smash the city up :)

Me too. Musikmesse April 9, the announcement of live 9.

If it comes with midi sync, I will shut the funk up.

After that is native instruments summer of sale and I can finally get the Komplete 7 upgrade for cheap.

I'm a dreamer, but hoping for the best.

Given Angstrom's excellent points about M4L, it seems to me a better deal to wait for Live 9 to be announced - if there is even going to be such a thing - and get some idea of the future direction Ableton are taking with it, then upgrade to L8 with a free upgrade grace period for L9 included, if there is such an offer.

Originally I held off upgrading 7 Suite to 8 Suite was the obvious bugginess. More recently it has been more a case of waiting to get more of an indication where Ableton are headed. Since the "quality statement" they have not confirmed whether development is even back on course, and I am concerned to know. Also I want to see where they plan to go next - e.g. are they planning to develop more DAW features, more live/stage features, or will M4L become ever more essential in order to get the full Ableton Live experience.

The new synth from Robert Henke is for M4L users only, right? Why not other Live users? I would be interested. Synths are for musicians, not M4L programmers only! I want to see where Ableton are headed with all this - are they still developing Live at all, or is future development going to be focussed on keeping Live 8 as a basic platform but putting the new stuff into M4L exclusively??

Oh indeed. I generally try and avoid it, but every now and then it does you the power of good. I'll sleep well tonight.

Yeah, Live 9 feels close. Either the massive overhaul many people are expecting or an attempt to shoehorn more features into a program creaking under the strain. Either way, this place is going to go ape shit.

One thing that people should remember is that while NI provide a 'free' player for their modular environment, the desirable content is not free.

If NI Razer is great value at €50 (or however much) for use in their player, then I'm sure that everyone here will be just fine about paying for equivalent content for the M4L player too ? yes?
No complaints?

Not sure about that. Remember that Live 9 development was completely postponed when Ableton launched their "campaign" to rid Live 8 of its most serious crash related bugs, and that postponement has probably affected Live 9 pretty strongly.

Many/most software companies will have multiple development streams. There's no reason they couldn't have suspended new development until they reached what they considered a sufficiently stable release and then resumed new dev.

We forget that the 'we fucked up, our bad' message was... god, more than a year ago now? Plenty of time to get working on new dev.

Well, this debate was ok until all the ranting started. I agree on some of the first points on page 1 and 2. But when some kids cries out for free stuff, older kids scream back asking them to shut up, as usual. And before you know it, the 10 next pages becomes a rant war.
