Why would anyone bother getting a consumer-level Mac?

IF one is going to make the switch to a Mac, doesn't it seem logical that they would get the very best? I wouldn't mess around with anything less than a Macbook Pro.

Also, most Mac users aren't gamers, nor do they really use P2P software that much. In fact, I don't know if I have seen any of my friends EVER play a game on their Macs... so that's not flawed logic, that's statistical fact from my area. The people I know who own Macs use them for music and general computing only. Ableton, Serato, Logic, etc.

I don't see how using a Mac is "easier." I guess that's just because I've been using Windows-based PC's since Windows came out. I grew up with a Commodore 64. I first started making music on a 133 mHz Pentium with 32 megs of ram! (And at the time, that machine was fast!)

Like someone else said, it's not what you use, it's how you use it. Ultimately the only thing that matters is your creative talent. You can have the most awesome home studio and it doesn't matter if you don't have the talent to take advantage of it. My roommate makes music in Fruity Loops on a shitty PC pieced together from thrift store parts, using an old Yamaha keyboard as a midi controller... and his music is better than mine!

Personally, I like XP because I don't have to worry about not being able to find software. Not to mention FREE software.

You MUST keep your music desktop/laptop DEDICATED.

That means don't use it for anything other than music!

If you want to download stuff, surf the web, play games, whatever... do it on another machine. I have several computers and my laptop is a dedicated music machine. I don't have anything installed on it other than what I NEED. Guess what? I have no problems at all.

I disagree.

I use my music laptop online all the time. I play Quake 4, and download music... surf the web... you name it.

I have been using computers since the MS-DOS days. 1980s. Never once in my whole life have I had a single virus. EVER.

It wasn't even until just the last year or two that I started using anti-virus software. Avast Freeware version.

I know there's a billion and one viruses out there, but if you know what you are doing.... don't surf weird sites, or click funny links.... open suspicious e-mails... then there is little to worry about. I didn't even get a single piece of junk mail on my personal e-mail account until just a few months ago, because one of my friends forwarded me one of those fucking joke chain-mails to everyone in his mailbox. So everyone he sent it to got my address, and everyone after that.

Now I get those fake e-mails from eBay saying.... click here, update your credit card info. But I'm not dumb enough to get duped by that stuff, so there really isn't much worry.

Also you don't compare apple to dell (Like Apple does to illustrate price competitiveness),
People who have skills, who use pc's and use them for music build the fuc*ers themselves. They get the best components before apple has them inside their computers because whats the point. Laptops are a different thing obviously.
And no I like apple too. I'm out.
Oh this debate...

I've been using PC's since the MS-DOS days as well, and the fact that you've never had a virus just shows that you are obviously the messiah.

Actually, it shows that you are extremely lucky.

If you only have one computer (a laptop), then you really have no choice but to use it for everything. However, I prefer to use my desktop PC's for downloading, gaming, etc. It helps me keep my laptop cleaner and running more smoothly. Basically, the less shit you have installed, the better your computer is going to run.

Oh and also, if anyone uses XP, turn off your visual effects if you haven't already. DUH.

I have 5 PCs in the house right now.

1 Gateway desktop
2 Dell laptops
1 Compaq laptop
1 M-Tech laptop

No viruses on any of them, or any computer before them. No joke.

That's fuckin' crazy.

I have like 5 different anti-virus/spyware programs running on my download/P2P machine AT ALL TIMES, and I get viruses once in a while. I know how to get rid of them, but still.

Also, a lot of the time, you don't know you have a virus until you run a scan!

www.trendmicro.com has a great "housecall" which scans your entire PC for free. It's great if you don't want to install any software.

I know that the bulk of my viruses and whatnot come from P2P programs. Oh well, the ends justify!

Ah. Another mac vs pc thread. Is it that time of the month again ;)

Macs are not idiot proof....

If sasha decides to record his set... fine.
Most Live users already found out that handling files over 2 gb make live behave unpredictable.
If you record a file thats 2gb in size. Live will crash or freeze..
This is both on mac and pc. I think it's a limitation in the .wav spec or something like that.

The best way to come to this conclusion of course... is to try it out in front of thousands of people. Giving 2 companies a bad name for 1 stupid mistake...

Live is as unstable on pc as it is on a mac.

Is there a point to this post?
If there is, is it destroyed by posting it in a pointless thread?

Thank you for playing, see you next month :D
I'm looking forward to xmas. Zune vs. Ipod? Wii vs PS3? Jesus vs. Santa?

That's why. I don't use P2P, or other stuff like that. I surf, but just normal day 2 day stuff. I download only from approved music retail sites like beatport. I do have anti-virus, Avast free-ware version, and I let it scan.... but it never finds anything. I never have problems.....

Except, like I said, when Allen & Heath supplied shit drivers for the Xone 3D. I heard they have fixed this problem since... but I returned that mixer for a refund already.

the diffs......

personal taste
cash
type of work

those all can be considerations, but for me, the number ONE huge "oh my god" difference is DRIVERS.......errr.........or lack there of. On my mac, generally things plug in and work. As someone pointed out the "found new hardware" can be a very fickle thing.

I had to use my pc almost exclusively for about a month and just found it mostly harder to use. Setting things up and gettin' things done just seemed more tidious.

Anyways, I still think it's good to have both if you can
