Gotta go.

I wonder if this thread will fizzle out or blaze its way across 20 pages...

Because we in the west support them. We support all of the Saddams, Pinochet's, Suharto's, Duvaleir's, Pol Pot's and Ceauceascu's because they provide things that we need. They open their countires natural resources up for investment by western corporations, provide cheap, easily exploitable sources of labor, and they (and we) keep it that way by denying their people the right to real democratic self determination.

We quietly look away from the torture and killing as long as they stay in line, and when they step out of line we crush them, and it is all at the expense of the people we are supposed to be protecting.

Freedom and Democracy my ass. People believe that because that's what they are told to believe. How many average joes walking down the street can tell you how many innocent Iraqi's have died in this war? It's a sad fact that the Iraqi's were better off under Saddam then they are now, and it's a sad fact that we don't give two shits about the Iqaqi people.

To quote Robert Fisk, "Is this war about oil? Ofcourse it is. Do you really think that if the National export of Iraq were asparagus that the 82nd Airborn would be in Mosul?"

We really don't care about them. And every American is guilty, we all have their blood on our hands. We are all responsible for this because of our ignorance and because of our silence.

ya, they should have made him work a minimum wage job first to pay for it.
then get him to import 100 ESX patches into Sampler, all of which start at the first note (logically enough?) C-2...which, as annnnyone will tell you wont happen. cos..Sampler 6.0.3 cant do this. Saddam would have killed himself if we did it this way, I promise you.

Right on, Smutek.

In the hour since you made this post you've posted twice more, so I'm guessing this one'll go on for 20 pages.

Or was it a rhetorical question, hmmm?

Well, again this Saddam trial and conclusion missed the real questions...
Who is he? how was he in power for so long? who gave guns in the war w/ Iran?
blablah..
Another way to rewrite history, to forget the only secular dictatorship of the region..
Suddenly we care about 148 kurds? and Turkey?
Winners write history, people, specially in the US don't know jack shit about Irak, some already forgot about 911, when why how...
Appalling truly.
Will Saddam become a martyr?
And yes well death penalty.... so wrong
How the new regime is suppose to behave now? they'll be accused of selling out to the US.
This sentence is meant to kill 2 birds with one stone: to bury the 911/Iraq connection and to rewrite history. No books will be written , no blogs no nothing by saddam or anyone of his regime. Brilliant.
happy new year....

Trust me, I'm part of the "people suck" equation.......haven't we (the world) seen enough to know better? Why are there any saddams in the first place!

That being said, humanity is doomed..........and yes, religion (not to be confused with sprituality) is a HUGE factor in the demise of man.....
Wisdom comes in dribbles, but it's not in the Universe's interest that humanity really evolve. If you objectively look at recorded history for the last few thousand years I challenge you to maintain that humanity as a whole has progressed an iota emotionally or spiritually.

What's amazing are the phenomenal advances in technology and science. Each generation looks at that and thinks to itself "thank the Flying Spaghetti Monster this generation is not as brutal as previous ones!"
