kenporter wrote:Your notes are early, really? The only problem I have is that my notes seem to be late on the track containing the VC. Did you have record quantization turned off, or set it to 16th notes and see. Maybe you are playing early. :) Sorry, the "solution" I posted works OK here. Of course this is not really a solution, more a temporary way to get this to work.

Ken
Sorry, I wasn't clear.

I wasn't playing early. I keep recording a sharp snare hit against the metronome, I gradually get more accurate - when I hear I have 4 in sync, I stop and just look at the last 4 hits.

Yes I have quantization off and delay compensation off and the "D" on, then they are in time.

If I turn off the "D" they are early.

If I turn off the "D" and turn off delay compensation, they are late.

I wish I could get your method to work, it sounds a lot easier.

Just saw this in the other forums regarding the arp sync issues... so I'm not sure if this will fix up latency issues, but it can't hurt :)
just to give you guys an update: we are working on a solution for the arp problems with live6 and will keep you posted once there is news.

thanks, marc

yeah, the latency in live 6 with the TI 2.0 OS is absolutely unbelievable. the TI is almost completely unusable.

Just out of curiosity, does anyone here experience the MIDI recording latency thing when using two tracks to record? That is, instead of recording MIDI events directly into the track with Virus Control, you set up another MIDI track routed to the VC track and record into that one.

Using this approach, I've noticed that the latency problem doesn't seem to happen anymore... it's just when you record directly into VC.

Can anyone confirm/deny this?

Rewire?

I can't find find any posts on this so...
Has anyone tried rewireing Logic/Cubase to Live (or vice versa, can't remember. :? )?
I'm thinking if Logic/Cubase runs the VC without probs you could use it as a "stand alone" host for the Virus and still run everything else in Live.

(Assuming you, for some reason, have got multiple daws at your disposal.)

Could this be yet another workaround until Access (hopefully) sorts this out with Ableton. (Aren't they both German? They should speak the same language... )

I've got the Virus TI desktop, Live 6 and Logic Express 6, so if one has tried this I'm gonna have a go on my iBook.

Cheers

just my 2cents into my experience with the virus ti and live
I've been playing with it for about 6 months now. first off I love the virus sound and the design is like a tank. I also applaud the access team for being on the cutting edge of hardware-software design and for working tirelessly to improve their product. looks awesome. feels great.
------
the following is just my opinion so please take it with a qualitative grain of salt.
I am running live 6.05 using an athlon 4800+X2 with 2gbRAM, RME multiface windows xp. UAD-1.
-------
I have done my best to work with the virus TI and have made some recordings that I like very much. I want to love this instrument. My problem is that it doesn't sync properly, no matter what I do, and I have tried everything I can. I also find that the plugin crashes my system more often than when not using it. Additionally, the BPM doesn't always sync with live, and if I move the tempo up and down, it sometimes catches it, sometimes not. The arpeggiator doesn't groove with my tempos, which is my biggest gripe, and the reason why I am selling it. I have taken to not loading the plugin anymore and using it as a purely midi preset box. Even then I am finding that midi doesn't always sync properly.
--
I use a korg ms-2000br and the rhythms are very funky and groove with my tempos. I downloaded NI MASSIVE today and loved it, the step sequencer rhythms fit into my compositions like a glove.
In order to get my virus TI to fit my compositions I have to spend a lot of time moving warp markers, adjusting tempos and I must say that I feel this technology is not yet perfected, especially with ableton live.
That said I think that it is groundbreaking in its own right, and that it will inspire scores of imitators. I expect that we will see the evolution of this concept and in the next few years we will have instruments that sync rocksolid with our DAW, no crashes, resets etc. just not quite there yet in this users' opinion.

I think NI's Massive might be displacing my Virus TI here. The plugin has never really worked for me and lately there are finally a couple of softsynths that can hang with the Virus (Komplexer being the other one).

I've found a way to record MIDI into Virus Control (VC) without delayed MIDI. The core of this problem is that Live uses the a plugin's advertised latency to delay MIDI notes that it records, but only on channel one. The trick is to go around this by not recording into VC's part 1, and by not recording MIDI directly into VC itself.

This workaround applies for both VC 1.2.4 and 2.0:

0. Make sure that plugin delay compensation is enabled in Live.
1. Create a MIDI track in your liveset and insert Virus Control into it
2. Set "MIDI From" in this track to be "No Input"
3. Create additional MIDI tracks for each part you want to record. They should be routed to the VC MIDI track, on the channel number corresponding to the part in VC you are recording to. Leave "MIDI From" on each of these channels to "All Channels".
4. When you want to record MIDI, simply arm the track you want to record into, hit a record button, and start playing. Here's the catch -- this will record non-delayed MIDI notes, but only for parts 2-16. Part 1 is always delayed. I believe this to be a bug in Live, not VC, as I have made a few dummy test plugins with latency similar to VC, and I discovered that the same exact latency behavior occurs with them.

It's kind of a bummer, but the bottom line is that it is definitely possible to record MIDI into the virus without delayed MIDI. The key is, you just can't do it on part 1. I've spoken with access support on this matter, and they're working with the abes to find a better solution to this problem. In the meantime, for those of you wanting to do accurate MIDI recording with VC, this method provides a workaround.

Another option is to just ignore the Virus Control and treat the Virus like any other hardware synth. Then you don't need to worry about any of this. Use SPDIF if you want a purely digital signal to get recorded.

I've done this and unfortuneatly there is still a delay on my Virus meh

my solution if any one alse is having this problem is to record your mix into Wavelab...........
