My main geography push was in 9th grade. That teacher had an interesting and I think effective method, which was to let anyone re-take any test as many times as they wanted to until they got the grade they wanted. Basically you were given a map with boundaries and nothing else, and you had to fill in country names, capitals, and approximate location of capitals.

A lot of it is now forgotten, but of course I know that North Korea is not in Australia!

Everyone knows it is that little island near Africa

It's not just Americans. The entire world is getting more ignorant.

The scary part is it's the most ignorant ones that are breeding profusely, so it's just gonna get worse...

Obviously the people who did know the answers to the questions were edited out to make a point. I'd like to see a survey such as this conducted in a more scientific manner, with percentages shown for how many questions were answered correctly vs. how many were answered incorrectly. That would be interesting, and I am confident that the same point would be made. It would be even more interesting to break the study up into groups based on political affiliation/ideology, income, and race.
I'd rather that study were global, and once and for all analyzed as such. Perhaps Americans are stupid, but I think you'd quickly prove that humans are stupid (or more fairly, ignorant), period. Do you really think you can walk into a working-class neighborhood anywhere in the world and get intelligent responses, consistently, concerning geography and politics on other continents? I'd bet against it.

It's all ego-centric cleverness, and not just on behalf of Americans. You come in, guns blazing, asking questions you already know the answer to, which on a day-to-day basis don't happen to concern your "target". I'm sure most of these people can ask you a thousand questions in return that you couldn't answer yourself.
Yes, americans are that bad...

And this coming from people who claim to NOT be racist.
Easy TD, there's a fine line between nationalism (slash anti-nationalism) and racism. Even if you are an American. :)

Didn't read entire thread, couldn't bother. Obviously edited, though I would have to agree that this country could use a lot of education, especially about current events outside of hollywood.

But, interestingly, in the subtitles it has "budhists"!! Which may be ok, but I checked merriam webster, and it wasn't.

There's a line in the movie, The Men In Black...
"Your average person is a relatively intelligent, reasonable person. It's people that are stupid." Something like that.

I'm totally taking the piss on other countries, if you can't make fun of the French, who CAN you make fun of? ;) It has to be more embarrassing to be american than anything else.
In my life
Why do I smile
At people who I'd much rather kick in the eye?

They could have been a little more creative with illustrating the colorfull people of the southern united states, and have some balls when you do it they looked pretty shook up by people laying on the horn.
