I saw it when I was a little kid. No wonder I grew up the way I have!

possibly the first time I realised, 'we are fucked'

crap yeah, i sneaked a watch of that when i was a kid too, it was just sitting on a VHS in the corner and it sounded scary so i popped it in. I think that was a defining moment in my life, I was like HOLY FUCK, I am no longer a child!!, one of my fave films now though.

Also i'd go for

Primer - what the hell goes on in that movie
INLAND EMPIRE- Sticking with the lynch vibe.

HAHA you want to know something really cool, i actually did the scary sounds of the crawlers for that film in my crappy home studio, my bro is best mates with Neil Marshall, My music and acting is also available to buy in our truly awful b movie that cost us £3000 to make. In the reviews nobody says how shit the music is, so that must be a plus for me at least hahahahaha

"Salo and the 100 days of Sodom" by Pasolini.....

" Irreversible"

But the most chilling are of course the documentaries...:

" Enron..." as mentioned in the first post...

" The power of nightmares " ( which makes a kind of comparison between radical and violent muslim-fundamentalists and hardheaded neocons.....great stuff! )

First of all, thank you everyone with the good titles, you've all fattened up my Netflix rather nicely.

Irreversible is the only movie I don't think I could watch again, so +1 there for sure.
Poltergeist definitely f'd me up as a kid, +1.
The Shining and Audition, +1 and +1.

Here's my nominees:
The Machinist (2004) -really struck a paranoid schizophrenic nerve and creeped me the hell out

Barefoot Gen (1983) -one of the first japanese animated films i ever saw when i was a kid, i cried a lot

Fantastic Planet (1973) -had to pause it at one point for a mental health break

Time Masters (1981) -another awesome migraine inducer

I actually lost my virginity to The Shinning and when I reflect on how that event changed my life than I guess you could say that movie fucked me up more than any other.

Primer - No idea still what actually happened.

Requiem for a dream - 'nuff said

More recently, INTO THE WILD - in a different way. It was an absolutely beautiful movie, it just hit really hard somehow.

Emissary! Thats so cool!! Great job!

That movie gave my missus the complete shits! She got so creeped out by it, that we've been waiting and waiting for the DVD edition with "making of" special features to come out, so that she can see the crawlers larking about on the set. Only then will she prepared to believe they are not real and terrifying!!

For the sake of my marriage please tell me there's a Deluxe Edition DVD in the works... :)

Here's a suggestion for those of you who are also adding some of these movies to your netflix queue. You might want to wedge some Disney classics in there as well or come Christmas you are going to be super depressed if you aren't already.

hehe thanks mate, just tell her to imagine a geek screaming and gurgling into a rode nt1a buried in a wardrobe with a pair of my mums stockings over a coat hanger for the pop shield. That should stop her fear. :P

sorry i have no idea about a deluxe version though, :(
