Movies that f'd you up
Movies that f'd you up
We already did the horror movie thread a few months ago and my netflix queue is dwindling down to crap I either don't want to see or I don't remember even putting there. So I thought we could start a list of movies that messed up your head. No, that's not just horror movies. It could be some documentary that opened your eyes. It could even be a movie that lifted your spirits and made you think (realize) you might be gay. I'm not gay bashing! ...oh, just list some movies.
A few from me.
Sophie Scholl: The Final Days
Irreversible
Audition
Enron: The Smartest Guys In the Room
Duh post: The Exorcist
Smartass post: Spice World (First!)

"The Killing of America" - A documentary I saw in my late teens. Up until then I had been a horror-movie fan (as teens are). After it, I realised how de-sensitised to [real] violence I had become.

It's old now - 1982 - and "reality" footage of death is much more common these days, but it was a wake up call for me.

movies or documentaries that either messed me up, opened up my mind or twisted it around:
Seven aka "Se7en" (1995)- of course, it didn't help that my brother and i decided to watch this instead of going to midnight mass with the rest of the family on christmas eve.
The Fountain (2006) - i really had to pay attention to keep up with this one. also, as a MAJOR plus, this one is visually STUNNING!!!
What the Bleep Do We Know? (2004) - or the "Down the Rabbit Hole" edition from 2006. also one you have to keep paying attention to, some really deep stuff.
would love to hear anyone's opinion on these, and yours once you see them. enjoy!
i'll probably come up with more in a bit...

The Mist...yup. Thanks to the trailer I kinda saw the ending coming though...
Sleepaway Camp...
Superhead's Vs. Mr. Marcus video. If you've got a girlfriend you NEED TO MAKE HER WATCH THIS VIDEO.
Primal Fear...and speaking of Edward Norton...
American History X.
Goodbye Uncle Tom...damn and I thought Roots was bad.
White people were pretty fucked up...feel free to argue with "were".
Ms. .45 Someone needs to remake this shit FAST...The Brave One had NOTHING on this flick.
X.
The last 20 or so minutes of "Seven". I don't think I've ever experienced that much suspense in a film.

"Bully" by Larry Clark had that same effect on me. It takes place in South Florida (where I grew up), and the way he portrayed those kids in the movie was so accurate it was scary."Kids", by Larry Clarke and Harmonie Korine brought back bad memories from my youth, I had to go and sit on a beach for a bit not an uplifting film
