beats me wrote:We already did the horror movie thread a few months ago and my netflix queue is dwindling down to crap I either don't want to see or I don't remember even putting there. So I thought we could start a list of movies that messed up your head. No, that's not just horror movies. It could be some documentary that opened your eyes. It could even be a movie that lifted your spirits and made you think (realize) you might be gay. I'm not gay bashing! ...oh, just list some movies.

A few from me.

Sophie Scholl: The Final Days

Irreversible

Audition

Enron: The Smartest Guys In the Room

Duh post: The Exorcist

Smartass post: Spice World (First!)
Audition is F'ed UP!!

Also some nice F'd up movies are:

Hard Candy......Ellen Page is in this one and she is one crazy BITCH!!!

Happiness........Philip Seymore Hoffman at his best weirdness

The Simpsons movie f'd me up.
I cant seem to get rid of that "Spider Pig" song.
Slightly OT...
For those who missed it: The Futurama movie went straight to dvd. It wont fudge you up, but there's some decent Fox bashing going on

On a more serious note, one movie that messed me up is one of which the title eludes me. I think its "A black day at black rock", but i'm not sure.
All I remember is that it had a scene that put me to tears. To this day, no other movie has done that. (apart from the prison scene is disney's robin hood when i was 6 years or something like that.)

"Kids", by Larry Clarke and Harmonie Korine brought back bad memories from my youth, I had to go and sit on a beach for a bit not an uplifting film
"Bully" by Larry Clark had that same effect on me. It takes place in South Florida (where I grew up), and the way he portrayed those kids in the movie was so accurate it was scary.
I saw a documentary on the people that bully was about...you have to be inbred to be that stupid.

Kids/basketball diaries/requiem for a dream all fucked me up but in a good way.

+1 for Happiness but I almost saw it as a comedy in the vein of "things couldn't get any worse" and then they do. It was a well rounded movie of random fucked up things that happen in society.

Easy choice(s) for me...

Henry (Portrait of a Serial Killer)

Scared shitless for about a week - truly a disturbing film - very good, just disturbing as hell.

Also...

The Descent

What a scary film...plus if you have any claustrophobia at all, there is a scene that will bugger you out.

I'd say the ending of Blair Witch Project was pretty intense.

Pi was dope:

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0138704/

Easy Rider is a good one too. Not scary, but the ending just makes you depressed... The LSD/graveyard scene is intense too.

From when I was a Kid:
It Came From Outer Space (checked everybody's neck for days)
The Wizard of Oz (that witch freaked me out, and the flying monkeys)
The 10000 Fingers of Dr. T (yeh, I took piano lessons)
The Killer Shrews (The science, it was so straightforward: a shrew eats 300 times it's body weight a day. What if it was, like: BIG????)
Anything with Giant Spiders/Insects because of Atom Bomb (Them)

A little bit later in life
Basket Case (that someone would even make such a movie)
The Toxic Avenger (see above)

Requiem for a Dream - for sheer loss of faith in humanity.

28 Days Later - for managing to freak me out and realize that not all horror movies had to be Japanese to be good.
