Confused
"In addition, Live hosts any VSTi or Audio Units (Mac OS X only) plug-in instrument."
Right, now I'm new to VSTis does this mean that Windows users can only use the two bundeled midi devices and external midi gear?

now if they could just get live in my pants it'd be perfected
I can't be sure exactly about Altivec optimization but I think this gives us a big clue
"Audio performance has been optimized for Macintosh computers."

MP3 support?
Does anyone else think Live should support mp3 format for clips?
I use Live for recording and am psyched about the new features, but I'd definitely use it for DJing as well if it did this.

besides, 160GB external HD is pretty damn cheap now, you could store many many sets on one of those - and you'd definitely have less problems
even Cubase has to convert mp3s to wavs before working on them, so I don't think using them in the way live does would be possible without performance sacrifices at the machine has to decompress as well as everything else

Well done Abelton !
I wanted to chime in with everyone else and say that this update is exactly what i'd hoped for, and that it really is one of the most significant events in how people make music for a long time. Nice one Ableton, it's looks fantastic. Can't wait to try integrating MIDI from live with VJ software with live musicians. Arkaos VJ software now works over rewire so that should be pretty awesome. Can't wait for G5 laptop !

You are correct. Usually, optimization for Macintosh means AltiVec enhanced. In this case, according to Ableton developer Bernd Roggendorf, optimization means an increase in performance of between 10%-30% by more efficient coding. This is even with all the new additional features of Live 4. Another benefit is that G3 Macs will also have performance increases because of this. See this thread:Anonymous wrote:I think you guys are jumping to conclusions. I don't see the word altivec anywhere on abletons web site (except in the forum) - do you? You're just assuming that mac audio optimizing means altivec ... I hope so ... but I doubt it.

was out of town for a wedding when the 4 bomb was dropped--hell yeah. instead of piling through this whole thread--
DOES ANYONE know if 4 will have a midi mappable delete button and resizable session tracks???
If so, my entire Live wishlist will be complete when 4 comes out, and I can kick FL, bomes, midi ox/yoke to the curb, and pretty much just run Live--4 looks absolutely awesome ableton, you have outdone yourself again. And for the vsti midi naysayers--eat a fattt one. you know you are drooling as much as me--shame on you for doubting Ableton. As I've said all along--they have never done anything half-assed, and 4 looks absolutely stunning!!!!!
