Still worth upgrading now?

Post by frankhoekzema » Mon Nov 03, 2008 5:58 pm

I am on live 4 just now and am considering upgrading to 7 mainly for dj purposes. Is it worth me doing this or is live 8 just around the corner. I am not looking to spend 150 euros if i have to spend another 100 a couple of months down the road

Ableton, just announced the Serato Partnership....

I'd wait...

I think 2009, comes lots of new softwares. Just before 2010? Come on, we are about to see some funky stuff!

"Just around the corner..."

We just don't know how big that corner is - or how far around we must go.

7.0.10 is stable on my machine. 8.0 most likely wont be. If you need Live 7 now, go for it. Or you can wait your whole life.

If you have to ask, then you probably don't know.

I'd disagree... history has shown the even numbered versions as tightened up versions of the odd numbers. at least this is the wishful denial I live in, that the next release will run light(er).

with versions 3 and 4 I had very few issues, omfg looking back life was so easy back then.

then 5 was great but sluggish

6 was pretty much like 5, racks and dual core were added, but it was an improved version of 5 as most of the features went.

7 brought in 64 bit summing (I assume a big code rip-up), drum racks, hi-Q mode on instruments etc. but it's not as smooth as 6

as 6 was to 5, I hope 8 is to 7.

either way, no new taxes in '08!!! (as in, as dedicated users we get 'taxed' every year for the new update, they put it out, we buy it.)

that's my denial and I'm sticking to it.

I'd say, go for it now... If you want it now, if not, don't  Simple really..

Even if the worst happens the most you'll get hit for by upgrading now is around €100, which isn't the end of the world, plus you'll get the latest version now rather than later. If you're moving up from Live 4 then you'll definitely benefit from the new features in Live 7.

Besides, there is no way we'll be seeing Live 8 for a few months. Its possible there will be an announcement before Christmas and the start of the free upgrade period but I'm less certain that will happen now.
