Padkontrol.... a basic question

Hello - new here... sorry if this has been asked time & time again, i have had a search and can't see anything though.

I'm looking at picking up a PadKontrol for using with Ableton (currently version 5, but i'll be upgrading next year when i upgrade me laptop) , at the moment to fire off audio and small loops, deejay based at currently with a view to working towards more of a 'live' show next year when i'm more confident with the set up.

is it possible to use the Padkontrol to trigger audio from rows 1-4 of channels 1-4 (or channel 1-3 and the 'scene' column) and then assign a rotary that could quickly move the 4x4 grid down the columns so i could simply turn a knob and then trigger clips from further down the session? If so would the illuminated pads of the audio currently playing move up the Padkontrol as i did scrolled down the session?

When playing live i go through tracks / loops pretty quickly so i don't want to spend time fiddling about arming individual track or just being able to launch who scenes at a time.

*edit - incidentally i don't really need to assign a STOP button. I never really use that function when i play out.

hey dude,
not sure if this would help, but what I do with my padkontrol is pretty much the same. I got this neat program called Farmpad by farmaudio, for mac only i believe, maybe a port for windows? but its great, you can assign the 4x4 grid to 16 different clips, then with the push of a button, it changes scenes, giving you a whole other 16 clips....and on and on ,i think there is a max of 64 scenes.....so pretty huge! It uses the padkontrols native mode....so if you have a windows pc i think you can still check that out, im pretty sure there are a few neat apps and utilities that can literally make your padkontrol do whatever you want. hope that helps a bit!

Ah... thanks for the info.. that's great! I'm OSX anyway (probably should have stated that in the post). Do you find it pretty reliable and easy to use that method yourself?

Also, when you select a new scene using this method, are the 16 tracks highlighted in Ableton, or do you just have to remember what you've assigned to the scene?
