Ability Foot Controller just for Ableton

Post by Lazos » Tue Nov 11, 2008 12:00 am

Hey Everyone,

http://www.younfx.com

Been awhile since I posted anything, but I'm just enjoying a little bit of rest during an extended trip in Europe (In Santiago presently).

I'd posted about this before, but I didn't receive a reply from anyone that has tried this thing. Any reports? I currently have the FCB1010 and I like it just fine. But I'm looking for something smaller, without the expression pedals. This thing essentially fits the bill perfectly, but I thought I'd check again to see if anyone has one.

Thanks for posting.

The FCB1010 works just fine but as you say it is a bit of a pain to transport (and quite heavy).

This might be something that a lot of people could build?

Yes, it does seem a bit expensive for just a midi foot controller. If I knew how to build one, I'd do it myself, but I don't know if I'll ever set aside the time to learn. But who knows . . .[/i]

Woah. I wish you the best in terms of sales, but I can't really get past that price either. The cost in parts has to be a fraction of that. I'm also concerned that you couldn't get the current down low enough so that it could run on batteries. And for $275 for 6 switches, I'd hope there would be a MIDI to USB converter built in, so you could simply run a USB cable to a laptop.

Holy carp, that's more than twice as much as I paid for my FCB!

I'm not selling it, I just was wondering if anyone has bought one or used one. :)

I'll probably look into making one. Thanks everyone!

Ah, sorry for the confusion Lazos. Bit of a relief, really. :) In that case I'll be frank: I think there are much better ways to spend that kind of money.

More here (though I used the iPac Game Controller chip, which necessitates the hassle of conversion software):

Presently, I'm in love with my Roland FC-300, which I picked up used for $220, and which will stomp (pun) all over that $275 unit - and on battery power!

I just purchased an ability controller used and I have having no success maping it right now. Ableton is recognizing a signal from the controller but I can't get it to assign anything.

Any suggestions as to what could he the issue?
