Hi,
Im using fruityloops for years now (doing hiphop & drum&bass), now its time to switch to a mac ( powerbook todo my show live with some variations ).
So fruityloops is not available for mac i search for a very powerfull patternstyle solution (samplebased). What i have seen from screens, impulse looks like exactly what im searching for.
But there are some question left:
-
Is Impulse capable of routing the wavs (samples) throught vst's, so i can add different effects to the drumsamples ?
- When i use pattern-style can i use all other features of live also ?
Sry for my english .. and sorry if the questions are stupid...but i dont own live till now

Every Drum channel in the Impulse can be routed to its own audio channel for adding FX/VST.
All Features of Live are usable at all times

If you are looking for pattern based stuff, and are going for osx, you might be interested in using numerology with live4. Numerology is a modular midi-sequencer that can do more advanced pattern based sequencing than anything I've seen. For example, you can use numerology to send midi to live, as a kind of external sequencer which is synced by midiclock. Check it out a
www.five12.com You can also use numerology on its own with au instruments. But the Live4/Numerology combo really rocks hard.

you can do realtime routing of each sample to its own channel and/or render each sample separately as a .wav or .aif
Each instance of Impulse has room for 8 samples, each with its own controls for pitch, stretch, drive, filters, length, etc...
The pattern sequencing capabilities of Live are truly awesome. It offers many new ways of working with audio and most of the old ways too of course. Just tonite i found a way to create endless flows of crazy cutup breakbeats by jamming little loops of the Amen break in realtime. Sounds like the insane Squarepusher dnb madness that makes you wonder how anyone ever programmed something that complex and this was in realtime! Good software...

How are you syncing using Numerology with live 4? there is no rewire.

If you should find the IAC bus too flaky you can midi clock sync over one of the two virtual OS X channels created by Numerology. These two virtual channels are also used to send midi from Numerology's sequncers and arpeggiators into Live 4 (or any otheR appl). Each of those NUM channel can hold 16 midi channels.

Yes, almost (or "similar"). But I'm not sure of the name. It's called "MIDI" and then followed by two letters - I think "X" was one of them. I tried a search for MIDI XT but this seemed to be some hardware unit. No probl, there are many folks on this forum that can chime in here.... (PC guys???
