and

b) you can fuck up audibly

with an additional

c) you're not so breathtakingly arrogant as to play shit that isn't plugged in

Oh dear 8O

Shame... and I was just about to get into these guys (been out of the loop you see). Imagine the conversation:
Justice Guy 1: Okay, so you're saying we have to click the Assign button, click every one of the knobs we use in this song, then wiggle a controller on this thing, click the Assign Button again, and then somehow save this as a preset on the MPD?

Justice Guy 2: Maybe there's another way...

Justice Guy 1: Yeah, listen how good are you at panting?

can I be devil's advocate and say that look on his face is "what ze fuck is going on man, the knobs aren't working.... but I'm too goddam stoned/jetlagged/ketamined to do a goddam thing about it...oh well, we do without filter sweeps tonight, eh?"

edit - I click on Ilia's link and realise just how unoriginal my fake french accented english imaginary response really is!

Forge, I agree. It's a perfectly reasonable explanation, and I feel a bit foolish for my post.

It's a sore point with me - there certainly are more than enough dead acts out there.

Gaspard, next time: plus le Bande du Gaffer! :D

if that's the case, then apologies to Justice.

i guess it's indicative of the state of the live electronica scene that our first instinct is to suspect foul play :(

as an addendum - Colin OOOD has a nord modular patch called the 'toothbreaker' which he loads whenever some punter suspects he's not playing live and bashes a few keys. it's like... a mega-synced, mega-FMd wall of distorto-noise at 1,000,000dB :D
