OT: Downgrading to vista [quick]

Trying to put XP back on my laptop (don't use it for music) but when i put in the XP disc it greys out the option to "Install Windows XP".
Google.com gave me a few options but nothing about doing a clean install.
Vista wont let me format the harddrive...

...quick answers much appreciated

boot off of the xp cd and you will get options to format and then can do the install. can't change the OS from within the OS, you need to boot off the xp disk

Got it (its going through setup now).
What I had to do, was put the DVD drive's priority in the BIOS as first.
Then I awas able to boot from CD.
