adding effects to drum racks...
hmm.. im kinda lost. So I have a track ready to go but I wanna add some effects to a few individual sounds in my Drum Rack. Where exactly do you drop the effect to get it to bring up the return chain for Drum Racks? Each time I drop an effect after my drum rack it effects the whole rack, where are the individual sends? I clicked the i-o tab and didn't see anything.

open up the help box at the lower left corner of Live (up triangle) then hover your mouse over the 4 buttons along the lower left corner of the drum rack window and read the help window.
you have to open the send/return window.
TBH I don't use them much, hth.

make sure the chain list is showing for your drum rack (little circle with 3 lines in the upper left), then click the little "R" at the bottom left. a new box should appear under your device chains (sounds in the drum rack), it'll say "drop audio effects here" in a little box underneath the device chains, create as many chains here as you would like by drag the effects/efx racks into them. in your device chains, you'll get a little send(s) box, if you have the "s" above the "r" highlighted... if you don't want to use them in a send/return fashion, you can just drag effects to the folded out mixer tracks, the drum pads, the device chains, or after a device is folded out, but before the end of the parent device, in this case the drum rack.

Re: adding effects to drum racks...
I would like to be able to save a Drum Rack preset with insert effects included. I can do that for sends and returns using the chains, but if I wanted to do an insert rather than send/return on the whole drum kit, is there a place I can drop that effect?
The only way I have figured out how to do it is to place the effect after the Drum Rack and group it. Is there a place to drop it toward the end of the rack so I can save it in the rack without having to group it?

Just drop the effect on the individual square of the drum sound in your drum rack. Then it is only on that one pad.

That is the solution if you want to save it as a regular preset.infinitystairs wrote:I would like to be able to save a Drum Rack preset with insert effects included. There's a trick though, which consists in saving the track itself as a set. Just drag your Drum Rack track somewhere in your library in the browser.
