Missing Sounds/Instruments?

Post by graceslick » Sun Nov 23, 2008 7:04 am

I've noticed that since I got Ableton 7 (full boxed version), I seem to be missing certain things...

Like, the whole entire drum section in Instrument Rack (and Drum Rack)...every single one I try, there's no sound at all. Nothing. Am I supposed to be doing something in order to get these to work? All the other instruments work. The keys and guitars and stuff. Just not the drums. Oh, except some of the guitars also don't work. Some do, but some others, when you press a key, the only sound that comes out (of all of them, and it's exactly the same for all of them) is this little muted click sound.

Now, I'm assuming that to rectify this in terms of the guitars, I'd then have to add stuff to it and adjust it using Tension. Is this correct? Or am I actually missing sounds and should there be a proper guitar sound for every file in the guitar section in Instrument Rack?

Also, the External Instruments section has nothing in it. Is this right? What's meant to go in there?

Also, both Analogue and Electric have nothing in them. What am I meant to put in there?

Thank you!

Hi,

The drum racks and impulse are normally only mapped to a small range of notes on your keyboard. In a drum rack you can see which range of notes will play a drum sound by looking at the grid in the drum rack device (mouse-over each drum sound and the status bar in the lower left corner will tell you which note will play this sound).

So, try moving an octave or two up or down on your keyboard and then playing the note and you should be able to find the right range for the drum kit.

For Analogue and Electric, try downloading the live pack presets from here: http://www.ableton.com/livepacks

For External Instruments, that's right it should be empty as default. This is used to control and listen to a hardware midi instrument (e.g. hardware synth) that is connected to your computer. An External Instrument track willl send out midi to the instrument and listen to the audio back from that instrument. See the manual for more details.

Hope this all helps a little!
