What's the best inexpensive Cello you can use in Sampler?

Post by Kodama » Thu Nov 27, 2008 6:56 pm

Looking at buying or downloading some cello samples for sampler.

I don't really want another instrument like GPO or EastWest, just some nice samples to play with.

Have you tried looking for soundfonts ? They're really old school, but someone mentioned them to me when i was looking for nice piano sounds and there are some great sets out there, but there are also some real nasty ones - but hey they're free ?

I'll check it!

Would look into the Ableton Strings, but heard they are so-so?

if you google free sample symphony or something, there's a symphony orchestrat in england that have a ton of free samples on their site.

+1 for cello presets in Tension, much more stuff going on because it's modelling

+2

Tension's orchestral sounds mostly do sound good and especially if you layer them with sampled sounds, that can be very convincing.

Tension does some mean Cello's!

Its also capable of making the sound you hear when you throw a Cello at a Piano.
I only wish my programming skills were mad enough to pinpoint the target with a Cello..

One day physical modeling will be a 3d application. Load up a Grand Piano, replace the hammers with hard boiled eggs and voila.. Load it up as vst in Live

Tension doesn't do it for me, especially for low cellos.

Everything comes out sounding like scratching a chalkboard!

Tweak the presets. Take off some of the rack FX.

Works fine for me, especially if you layer it with sampled sounds, because the bowing action is more realistic than any sampled sounds.

if you have, or can get your hands on, the logic sound library (which comes with logic pro), the string samples are pretty great.

and not too much of a pain to load into sampler (drag, drop + tweak a bit)

Hrmm that's not a bad tip, but I don't have or need Logic ATM.

Don't get me wrong, it's an insane value - really wish their devices would work in other apps!

I want to buy some music instruments like cello or violin for my music shop at some whole sale prices. Please help and recommend me some instrument’s retailer shops in Mexico City. I truly mean your all suggestions who so ever will give. Thanks!

The Karoryfer x bigcat cello, "a simple cello sample library which is intended to be flexible and easy to use. The recordings are close-miked, recorded without vibrato, and completely unprocessed", were recommended to me, but I haven't evaluated them myself.

I think (one of the best) classical plugins you can buy is Sampletank 3; there is an extraordinary collection of really excellent samples IMO at a very competitive price (and I'm a big fan of Kontakt).

That said, I just listened to Live's samples (in Orchestral Strings) are actually pretty good as well.
