Rewire iTunes via Live or is there a VST mp3 jukebox player?

Post by mr lovely » Thu Nov 27, 2008 7:14 pm

I DJ a lot with ableton, and sometimes I'd like to be able to use it to play a playlist of tunes occassionally, like you can in iTunes, before returning to more of a DJ set. At the moment I flip back and forth to iTunes which is clumsy, and you can't mix or use fx

Ideally, I'd like play actions in ableton to be able to be trigger another clip when the previous has finished (instead of after a set number of bars), but this isn't possible.

Alternatively, I'd like to be able to rewire iTunes via an Ableton channel, but although I've played around with ASIO4ALL and virtual audio cables, I can't figure out how to do this.

So, instead, I thought I would try to find a VST plugin that can behave as an mp3 jukebox, and thought there would be loads of software to do this, but I can't seem to find anything. Does anybody know if this is possible, or have another suggestion?

thanks for your help,
Mark.

I never found one mp3-player vst for osx, but for windows I just found that one:

http://www.dontcrack.com/freeware/downl ... /mp3-Play/

don't know if it's good or not, try it.

I OSX it's quite easy to route itunes into live via soundflower, there must be something similar for windows.

thanks pepez - I found that one myself when I was looking, but the download link has expired so I can't try it. Looks like it might have done the job, although it is very ugly!

Rewiring iTunes into Live would be my preference, but can't seem to figure out how to do in in Windows.

thanks anyway.

aren't you asking about "follow action", isnt it?
i'm an artist, don't ask me why.

..but "follow action" has to be set as triggering after a specific number of bars, doesn't it? So you'd have to go to each tune individually and set it to the track length, which is a bit impractical.

Would be good if you could set it to triggger when the clip finishes, but I don't think this is possible.

you can have something similar to a "playlist" by dropping a few unwarped songs into arrangement. maybe the easiest solution if you DJ and want to go out for a smoke. 8)
