Vocals on a track...

Post by sherman » Wed Dec 03, 2008 8:08 am

I wouldn't call myself a singer, and I've heard more than a few tracks ruined by bad singing.. I have a friend who has gotten a session drummer to record some stuff for him in the past. I was wondering if anyone has used a session vocalist? I have some lyrics and know roughly how I'd like them to sound. What would I need to get someone to reciord vocals (most likely remotely)? Send em the track and a simple piano accompanyment with the sort of vocal pitch I have in mind? Just wondering if any of you guys have been through this process.

Same problem here, the most efective and fun is to find someone who want to collaborate with you. For a couple of tracks or an EP.

He will be more involved than a session singer and the result will probably be better.

depends...

get in touch with the singer and ask what they need / how they like to work...

if they want to have certain parts stripped out of there backing track or not.

a singer not even have to live in your country, just send the required files(s) they want as a backing track to sing to, let them record the vox (i would let them do that preferably totally dry) and then let them send you the file and you mix and produce it into your song...

this is very common our days.

Hi Sherman.. Just as Subfunk said.. It's really no big deal in sending relevant song files to people.. I have been using Soundcloud for that recently. I have been doing some vocals for another forum member.. He sent me the track as he had it. I loaded it into Live and laid down a rough demo vocal, to see if we were batting for the same side, so to speak.. The track is being arranged atm and then we will finalize the vocal parts and record them properly. It's been a great and easy flowing experience so far!
If you want you can send me the track and i'll happily take a listen.. my Soundcloud account is http://soundcloud.com/the-inpsyda
I'm always up for doing collaborative work... So, if I can be of help in anyway, please ask!

Best
