Help me out! an issue with Racks

Post by SpookyCLombardo » Fri Dec 12, 2008 3:38 pm

Hey everyone, Im never on here, but no one could help me out on the forum I normally post on. So, since this is specifically Live, Im here.

My problem lies in Drum Racks.
Everytime I build my own kit with my own samples, they are never able to be controlled by the Velocity Editor.
To control the volume i have to create automation on the Chain volume.
But its gotten annoying, Im wondering if anyone has a solution, or a reason for my problem...
Im normally very very good in Live, and the controls, however, this one has got me STUMPED.
Please help.

Thanks a bunch

I assume you are using Simplers (or Samplers) inside each drum rack chain yes?

go and take a look at the Simpler velocity sensitivity that's over on the right hand side near it's main volume control. I usually have that set about 50%.

set that Velocity to actually DO something in one one of your drums in your rack and then right click that velocity dialog box, you should see an item in the context menu that says something like "use this value in all siblings" or "copy to siblings", something like that. Use it.

Now, when you make a rack, you really don;t want your Simpler (or Sampler) to be unresponsive to velocity, so check out the Defaults for Drum racks, read the manual on 'Defaults' , because you can set it up so every time you drag a sample into a drumrack it uses a particular setup.

Wow, thanks Angstrom! I've been fighting this for a few weeks now not being able to figure out why my cool Drum Rack doesn't respond to velocity changes. Bummer that the default is set to 0%...why would that be? I don't have very many scenarios where I wouldn't want at least some velocity changes in the output. Thanks again.
