I can't imagine wanting much more than 4, I've been using 4 cores for about a year now and I've never had a song max out the cpu. I imagine if I doubled that to 8 I would have processing power for days and days.
sure I know some people out there need machines like this, I just can't imagine why I would need that much power.

It was as if someone shook up a 6 foot can of blood soda and suddenly popped the top.

The crazy thing about all this is that the computer is still under going exponential growth. Moore's Law continues to hold.Johnisfaster wrote:I can't imagine wanting much more than 4, I've been using 4 cores for about a year now and I've never had a song max out the cpu. I would love Live on 16 cores, it would be so smooth. Right now with 4 i'm pushing 44% from the live meter which is a terrible gauge. Top says closer to 60% cpu utilization. If I get in the 70's I get dropouts.

$9,995 - isn't that about the price of a Mac pro?

EDIT: ha ha...just for fun I went to Apple.com and clicked on a Mac pro to see how much it would cost if I ticked all the premium options (including Logic express, final cut etc..) and it came to a cool $26,988.95

960 cores should be enough for anyone.
