Recording external MIDI fx with LIVE 7

Post by PTB » Tue Dec 30, 2008 8:23 pm

Hi All,

I’m new to the forum and I was looking for help on recording MIDI fx with LIVE 7. I have the Electrix Filterfactory and MoFx, and a Pioneer efx1000 that I would like to hook up to the MIDI port on my RME Fireface800. Ideally I want to run a signal through each device, recording fx from each back into LIVE.

My goals are:

1. To record the fx via MIDI so I can edit each and every parameter after the recording. I have it daisy chained in the below mentioned order so I can delay the filters and flanges. I want to record the fx in this order.

2. I want to see all of the automation for each device separated in the drop down menu of the track (Just like if you had more then one effect on a track that had automation recorded.)

Also, will the names of the parameters that I automate show up in Live or will it be hard to decipher what automation is linked to each knob?

Right now I have the following MIDI setup. Is it correct?

MIDI out on the Fireface à MoFX MIDI in
MoFx MIDI Thru à Filterfactory MIDI in
Filterfactory MIDI Thru to efx 1000 MIDI in
Efx1000 MIDI out à Fireface MIDI in

After everything is set up I’m assuming I record enable a track, tweak the MIDI fx and then edit after. Please correct me if I’m wrong. I would really appreciate any help on getting this set up and I apologize if this is a complicated first post.

Thanks in advance!
