[OT] Man Utd vs Chelsea - UK Premier League Football
Being a Utd fan, I'm having a moment this arvo! 3-0 is a pretty comprehensive scoreline in any game!!
But against Chelsea it feels just that bit better...

Respect to Utd (I like watching them play) - but any decent law abiding citizen cannot support Man U. Or Chelsea.
Sad people, usually from small town parochia (often not within 100 miles of where Man U and Chelsea are), with no sense of football/soccer tradition, and who should go and support their local team in the fizzy pop league, except they blow chunks and people think that they are a) uncool or b) a nerdy trainspotter if they do, so these saddos with holes in their lives who have to be part of something successful to hold up their self esteem who are mostly armchair fans and who go trolling Man City and Liverpool boards with sick arrogance because they can hide behind their anonymity.

BTW - I'm also an angry Leeds fan but I would have more self respect than to dirty myself touching a Man U supporter
I am also born in LEEDS, and support my LOCAL team - for better or for worse, since 1977 and usually for worse. But at least I didn't hop some bandwagon to become popular ...

It's like seeing all these people here in Canada, wearing Yankees baseball caps, most of whom have never been to NY, especially The Bronx where Yankee stadium resides and just like the idea that they are a big, successful team. Yuck. Baseball sucks - but if you live in Toronto at least wear a Blue Jays cap !!

yes !
People wearing Real Madrid shirts in Canada do so because they know Real Madrid are a huge, glamourous team. People do not search out Extramadura or Getafe soccer shirts.
I like the way Man Utd and Arsenal play - but consider that they have been among the 2 richest clubs traditionally for a long time, they can afford to buy the players who play great attractive football.
I enjoy the whole culture of soccer. The Saturday walk to the stadium via a pub or two. The camaraderie. Standing on a terrace and not having to take out a remortgage to be able to afford a season ticket. Pies. Hot Dogs. The modern game of all seater stadia and prawn sandwiches and champagne in the executive box and ridiculously overpaid little prima donnas is very sad. I also am a member of MyFC who took over Ebbsfleet United FC, a semi pro team in the Blue Square league, and I get more interest and see more passion in their small number of fans than the big 4 premier clubs.
I assume you're French Serge - Well, if I was a typical ignorant international 'fan' I would automatically support Lyon because they have won the title 7 years in a row. I could buy my Lyon shirt and say what a great fan I am, or write opinions on players, who I only see on TV. I will likely never go to the stadium, yet I'm such a devoted fan - where is the irony in this ? I actually support (support is wrong as the club do not get any of my cash, but I like) Lens, because I went on an exchange visit there, and liked the camraderie and down to earth values of the fans. But back in the UK, at that time, you could only get PSG or Marseille jerseys ....

As a Pompey fan, I was more interested - and happy - at Wigan nicking three points off Spurs

Football/Soccer...
What the hell? That's no sport! No tackles! No real contact! No real injuries! No fights! Just a bunch of pussies trying to fake (badly!) injuries in order to get a free kick. Ice Hockey, now there's a sport. American football, there's a sport. No holds barred fighting, there is a sport! If those Soccer pussies took some of the contact aspects of Rugby into their game, it would be a sport. Now it's just a "sport" for little girls and girly men.

As an active player of both sports (icehockey and soccer) to late teenage, I can tell you sire, you have no idea what you're talking about. Besides these violence admiring sports cultures like canadian hockey culture is, are just disgusting and ridiculous. Ridiculous like this Bertuzzi schwein in Moore case: "my intention was not to hurt him." WTF - guy hit him in the head.Action Jackson wrote:Football/Soccer...What the hell? That's no sport! Hey Slatepipe, I live in Pompey, but went to see the O's earlier in the season. I took my Zoom H2 with me and recorded some crowd chants/sounds. On my MySpace page there is a track I did live using the Orient noises: http://www.myspace.com/gliiitchesslatepipe wrote:orient are doing shit this season
My best mate is a bit of a groundhopper and likes going to watch football at as many grounds - and as many levels - as possible. He's a Havant & Waterlooville fan at heart (as am I; although my loyalties are split wih Pompey) but lives in Bethnal Green. I was visiting one weekend in October and we went to Brisbane Road.
Good game too - Scunthorpe if I recall; 2-2 draw. We both liked the ground and the atmosphere around the place. I think my mate is going to see them now and again as he was looking for a London based team to support. He gets back down here for most H&W games, but on free weekends I think he'll be following Orient.
I've looked out for their results since my trip - like I say, nice place. Had to admire those flats that are in the corners of the ground too

wasnt it havant who did ok in the cup last season against liverpool? i watched that game on match of the day, i think they lost 5-2 or something in the end but the first half was great. or i may be confusing them with someone else.
im not a full on orient fan, i just like going to see a game now and then and its only about 15 quid with my student reduction. i went to their first game of the season against hereford. they won 2-1. things are looking a bit bleak for them at the moment though. their ground is pretty nice, we got an allotment down the end of brisbane road so im down that way quite a bit
id go see arsenal as they're the nearest team to my house but pfffft...im not prepared to spent that amount of money
your noise is mint btw
leedsquietman,
I totally understand your point, and can agree with you to an extent. I don't like the plastic fans who only support a team when they become big, such as a guy I know who supported man utd until he was about 16, then when arsenal won the title, he changed allegience. However, I have supported man utd since I can remember, as a result of my dad being a man city fan (aren't family rivalries fun!).
I may not be from manchester, or even the manchester area, but that really didnt come into my decision to start supporting man utd as a small child. I am also a strong supporter of my local side, St. Albans City, however following them properly is difficult, as I don't live near st albans any more.
I don't really care who you support, or where you're from, but it would be nice to watch a game and support your team in a pub without getting abuse from ignorant fans of rival clubs.
Anyway, american football? Ice Hockey? there is only one sport that is the most popular sport worldwide, and that is football (soccer for all the heathens out there
)
Peace
