Ableton Live 8 "SHARE"

Post by mholloway » Sat Jan 17, 2009 2:43 am

While all the kickass new features are stealing the attention, it seems to me like SHARE is one of the greatest tools any DAW has come up with in recent memory....leave it to Ableton to blaze the trail in forwarding how we create music together, while countries apart......keeping file sizes low, freezing to avoid plugin issues, and an easy interface all based in their website -- this is friggin' rad. I think this could, possibly, change everything we see from here on out.....no question that other companies will follow suit and mimic this idea.......i wonder if it will cost money to use? i hope not, but the site seems to make me think it might, as it says "price information not available" or something like that.....

but man, EXCITED.....

For sure .. one of the greatest features around.

Something im hoping for in the future is a "rewire" style link between abletons thats a lot more reliable than basic midi. This would be a protocol that could run over things like Ethernet. It would have things like postion sensing so even if one had a drop out .. it could regain itsself back to the correct master location in the timeline. Would be very very handy for live.

Other programs like reason / blah could just slave in rewire mode on each host.

Something to think about :)

The more I think about it, the promise and potential of this one feature will reshape the online community. There is possibly a swift evolution of interaction coming.

Will this mean a whole new overall forum? or will it simply slip into the current state of things? Sorry if this question has been asked.

And all this time we thought the Abes were just lazy drunkards.

I gotta agree, this feature will grow to be one of the best features as time passes.

I'm wondering about VI's though. If I have a synth that you don't have isn't it going to say "synth missing" or something like that when you download my file?

Since it's ment for collaboraton purposes, I would assume that the samples for the specific midi notes on external synths used are either included or then the tracks get frozen somehow when sharing. But this is just an assumption.

FL Studio (formerly known as Fruity Loops) has a collab tool since years. And honestly, the idea to include Max isn't new either since FL8 incoporates Synthmaker. ;)

Don't get me wrong, I love the new features and drool like everyone around here.

yeah, I'm lookin at the original post date 2009, and remember being excited about M4L, Share, The Bridge, and now thinking how NI or Bitwig might be doing any of that stuff better, and how Ableton have made some silly decisions.
