Novation nio 2|4 - cheaper than your budget and I've had nothing but good results.

Recently I took a TonePort UX1 (Line 6) to complement my Macbook while on the go.
I was amazed by the sound and possibilities. Although a more Guitar/Bass/Vocals interface (uses dedicated software and no plug-in) the possibilities are so great that I nearly decided to hook it to my iMac instead of the FCA202 (FW) that I use now (so that I can get rid of the external mixer I got, because FCA202 has only Line inputs)

100% agree.
UX1 is an amazing audio interface with great effects for guitar/bass.
My only complain, the volume from headphone output is a bit low.

i still rock a mbox 1 bc I'm cool like that
Live 8 Sweet, APC40, GR-20, livecontrol, PCR-300, Torq Xponent, Parker NiteFly, Logic, other assorted fun Softies plus quasi penchant for Mumbo Sauce and ability to get yuppies furiously heated within minutes.
