very annoying bug/crash

Post by robleighton22 » Sun Feb 08, 2009 2:49 am

ok, no idea what causes this. at the moment when i try and work on a project, within a couple of minutes the sound stops. the only way i can get sound to work is if i arm a track and then de-arm. really buggy. if i could be more specific as to what is causing i would explain in more detail.

it happens on every time i try and use ableton 8.07b. usually it seems to be on operator when i try and bring in a 2nd osciallator whilst playing a clip, the music freezes. its very annoying.

my hardware is as follows:

motu 828mkII usb
windows vista
dual core 2.2ghz
2gb ram

it could be to do with the sound card. i know the motu is really unstable in windows generally, altho in ableton 7 it works absoutely fine.

sorry i cant be more specific, has anyone else experienced something similar - it seems to be happening more in the latest beta release.

Hi,

could you try if using a different sound card (e.g. the built-in one) changes anything?

Best,

tried using the built in realtek soundcard and it has crashed immediately. this beta is unusable for me. i think might be something in my project that is crashing it. however, this is a track i started using this beta only. it seems to stall sound when i click on a function, such as muting a track, arming a track, almost anything. im not sure why it worked fine up until now - as i made the basics of this track for a few hours with little problems. im using ableton plugins only.

this is still happening in live 8 beta 8. as soon as i try and edit any settings sound just stops. it comes back again after about 3 minutes of clicking on the screen. i dont know why it is doing this.

make you sure you have drive space left, you've been downloading new stuff and making data with the bug reports. I just had to make room. also try Live 7.

got loads of hard drive space left. it seems to happen only on 1 specific project. very odd. altho i might hav worked it out. it seems to be when using operator. what i did is i duplicated a track with operator in it, and then try to play with the settings. when i deleted that track, the problem went away. when i duplicated it again, it worked for a bit and then the problem returned. again this is using either my built in sound card or my motu soundcard. definitely some sort of bug. as mentioned before, the play button is stuck in play mode, no music plays, u cant stop the transport, yet nothing appears to move. ableton hasnt crashed tho as you can still move around the gui. eventually it starts working again, but then it will stop after a few moments of tweaking things. if i delete the duplicated track, the problem seems to go away.
