Korg ESX-1 and Live...
Korg ESX-1 and Live...
Anyone have an ESX-1 and use it w/ Live? Can it be done? Im thinking about picking an ESX-1 up next week. Any help is appreciated.
hi there.
i use the es-1 (old version) with ableton and its great for on the fly drum programming/jamming etc.
its very quick and fluid to program and you can also automate knob movements as part of a pattern.
its like using a 909 with sampling capability and more.
the major bad thing about it is the velocity. it isnt dual velocity like a 909. it uses an accent track which accents all the sounds on that step. thats quite lame if you ask me.
the other thing that annoys me about the es-1 is that it does not have a decay knob for the samples. the esx-1 fixes this.
also the es-1 is 32khz and the esx is 44khz with tubes (crap tubes).
they both sound good on drums. i like the 32 khz sound on the es-1.
also the es-1 costs nothing these days but the esx-1 is very epxensive for what it is.
hope that helped. if you have any more questions feel free to pm me.

If you want to play live with the ESX and ableton you just hook up the midi out from your computer's midi interface and have it slaved to ableton. You can play Ableton like you normally do and also jam on the ESX seperately while synced.
If you have the money, get the ESX. But its 5 times more expensive than an ES so its up to you. They are both good.
The tubes distort the sound if thats what you are after, but I think they are just cheap tubes. I guess its better than no tubes at all. Just dont drop it or they will break
