[4754] meta data has vanished again in beta 10

Post by Angstrom » Sun Feb 15, 2009 11:03 pm

I did not have metadata in beta 8, it was fixed in beta 9 (although the previous bug thread has vanished!)
it has vanished again in beta 10

none of the new content has the new meta data. IE in the browser column "packs" it no longer says "Live 8 Beta content" ... or whatever it said briefly for the duration of beta 9.

also the presets no longer show me their meta data. Which they did in beta 9

comparing the file sizes

Beta 10 file sizes
Live 8.0b10\Database\files.db = 1,264 KB
Live 8.0b10\Database\index.db = 4 KB

Beta 9 file sizes
Live 8.0b9\Database\files.db = 3,434 KB
Live 8.0b9\Database\index.db = 4 KB

So the old beta 9 database was a lot bigger than the new one, and that's probably why it worked.

My own metadata has gone missing too
During Beta 9 I also made some metadata for some of my own racks, and that meta data was all fine and visible during beta 9, but in Beta 10 that data too is missing. I cannot see the descriptions I wrote for my own racks.

I suppose I could just manually copy the old 'correct' database out of the beta 9 folder .. but there's certainly a bug here.

*having sense of deja vu*

There seems to be a problem with the database copying, we're looking into that. But no data is lost, the database is only a cache for the metadata.
When you say you "made some metadata" you probably mean InfoTexts for the racks?
When you open the racks, the infotexts should still be there, you only dont see them in the Browser, right?
If this is the case, you can make them visible again in the Browser by choosing "Manage Project" on the project they are contained in (or "Manage Library" if they are in the library).
The latter will also restore the metadata for your Library (will take some time, though, sorry about that).

Please let me know if this works for you!
Thanks,
Stefan

sorry, I don't see info text with a loaded preset.

If I load a recent preset such as this Instrument Rack ("Ambient-Alien Riches"), this is what I see

using that instrument rack as an example I can right click it in the browser and choose "manage file" - this restores the "Live Pack" identification information in the browser. That now reads "Live 8 Beta Library" for that pack.

Then (after it has been 'managed') if I refresh the Live file browser and then select that updated LivePack it will now show the info text for that pack.

Also, of course, after 'managing' the item it will also show info text when that preset is loaded.

Sadly I cannot use "manage file" on all of the library.
I'm not sure where the "Manage Library" command is located, it does not seem to be in preferences and it is not a context menu item on the browser listing.

As I noted in another thread ... using the preferences Library selection pulldown will lock me out of the application for 1.5 hours for each of the listed libraries.

in my case I have two libraries , so that totals 3 hours of being locked out of Live

The info text for a loaded Rack (or any other device) is only shown if the mouse cursor hovers over the Title bar (where "Ambient-Alien Riches" is displayed in your example). As the InfoView is empty in your screenshot, the mouse probably was somewhere else on the screen? If the Reack would have no info text, the default "Device Title Bar" and some explanations would be shown.

The info text shown in the browser for a Preset is always the info text of its top-level device or rack.

"Manage Library" is a function of the File Manager which is opened in the lesson view upon "Manage Files..." from the "File" menu.
I'm afraid this will then take 1.5 hrs for your Library, which seems to be quite big?

Hi, the screen shot facility on a PC does not include the mouse cursor. Strangely I have to un-focus Live to take a screen shot - and during that tabbing I must have nudged the mouse ... so here's another one .

My Library has all the various Live Packs in , Session Drums, EIC2 , etc. I would imagine it is about standard size for most suite users.
The Size on Disk is 37.4 GB

well, I'll start the scan now and see how long it takes this time

finished

so that was actually about 50 minutes. It started at 14% this time so it must have continued from some cached partially completed scan.

I can now see the info texts when I roll over the items in the browser

Very good. I'm also happy to see that our improvements for scanning efficiency seem to have worked (50 minutes ist much less then 1,5h minus 14%). And yes, we do only scan things that haven't been scanned before (but we still have to look at every item to find this out, of course, therefore even a completely scanned library will take some time when scanned again).

We still will have a look into the copying of the database between versions.

Thanks for the detailed reports, and sorry for the inconvenience!

Stefan

I'm having the same as Angstrom - I wonder if it has something to do with coming from earlier milestones
