Live 3.04 stutters when using midi controller

I've noticed a recurring and very annoying problem while playing live. When i'm playing a set of loops (can even be as little as 1 loop sometimes), and then move a midi controller mapped to a send, the audio drops out and stutters. I am using a UC33e, via USB. It happens at very low CPU useage, and is repeatable on 2 different powerbooks. I have a session view with about 12 tracks and about 40 scenes, in which about half of the slots are used. I only have one send set up to a simple delay. The problem doesn't occure when i use the mouse to control the send amount.

This basically means i can't feel confident using send effects at all live, restricting what i'm doing substantially.

Any ideas?
