Hi.
Im using live to DJ and i have so many tracks to play. They are all on one track and i have a slight compression to try and get them to play at the same level without making them sound compressed.
I have been through them carefully and listened to try and get them to the same level but before i know it suddenly they are at different volumes or im pushing them up too high.
Has anyone got any ideas on how i can do this?
Cheers, Benji

If you're using mp3s, you could use a program like mp3gain, which non-destructively levels the volumes.
http://mp3gain.sourceforge.net/
Probably not the best solution (which is without doubt using your ears!) but it's quick and easy.

should i take off my compression and gain and just put the RMS meter on or put it on after my slight compression?
Cheers, Benji

alright, so what if i want to change my gain while mixing?
i just found out that i can use the compressor to do this, and you guys are saying i should lose it.
and what? click on my clip and change the gain over there? while mixing?
and then click the other clip and change the gain? and then the first clip again and change the gain again?:)

well, you could try pulling down the fader on the track.

if i wanted to lower the gain, yes. but if i wanted to raise it?
i want my fader to top at 0db, so i can slam it up when needed and not worry about going too loud.
but then, when eq-ing and stuff (or in a breakdown) i might want to crank it up more, and i can't assign 2 midi controls to the track volume (one for -inf to 0db and one from 0db up).

well, you need gain controls.
aka, put a utility plug at the end of your fx insert chain. map a midi controller to it.
just like a real dj mixer!
how do you think people have been getting away with this stuff? lol...

yeah, thats what the utility plugins are for
i wish you could tell live to save a default setting that opens with every new track, cause then i would tell live insert every new track with a utility plugin at the end of chain, audio or midi wouldnt matter.
