Virus Ti Automation issues

Post by spanda » Fri Feb 27, 2009 6:23 am

The issue I had with Live 7 and 8 b12 where if the Virus Ti was loaded from a preset it would not pass automation data and stated 'unmapped' is not present in b14. great :-)

When adding controls with 'configure' selected and showing green (AU), controls from the Ti itself are mapped fine but controls from the Ti plugin within Live are not mapped. Wow, just though I'd better check VST. Now only cutoff, resonance and oscillator Volume+sat are mapping and configure is pink with both VST and AU versions? Will restart machine and post if it changes..

This way of adding required controls to the automation map is excellent, much neater and logical. It seems to be working fine for other instruments I tried.

Hi Spanda,

unfortunately the Virus TI does not send parameter change signals to Live, beside the 3 mentioned parameters, so its not possible to configure any other parameter. In Live 7 btw all other parameters have been visible but not automatable, because the Virus does not respond to parameter changes made in Live with all the other parameters. Only this 3 parameters are configurable and automatable in Live 7 as in Live 8.

regards

Hi,

Actually this is not entirely true. In Live 7 you were only able to see and map cutoff, resonance, osc volume as well as the 3 softknobs, which you can map inside the Virus to a lot of other parameters, for each individual channel.

In Live 8 you are still able to map these 3 parameters plus 3 softknobs for each TI channel. So yes, nothing has changed in that regard.

Workaround...

Use Virus Ti in Remote Mode set to Virus A-B-C.

In Live set 'midi in' on for 'Virus ti Synth'.

This records midi not automation but through USB and plays back fine, seems very accurate for midi..

Sad the Virus Ti is not fully automateable as its the best Synth I have come across :-(

At least we can do most of what we need without midi cables.. Sort of Like a virus B or C with a patch librarian :-) and soft knob mapping is still very powerful, thanks Ken

Thank you both clarification of the issue.

Found this post by aqua_tek from a few days ago:

CTRL + click (or right click) on a parameter knob or slider on Virus Control and you get a popup menu... The first option in the menu:

Add "____" to Automation.

And vice-versa, any parameter that's already part of the automation list can be removed in the same fashion... which helps clear up space for you to customize your own automation list.

EDIT:
Also... i was thinking it would be nice to be able to clear the entire automation list to start from scratch, but I still havent found a way...

BUT...

In the same little popup menu, what you can do is, REPLACE an existing parameter from a list with the one you want to add. Say, for example, you want to add FM amount to the very first automation slot. Then right click on it, and in the popup menu, go to "PART 1", for example, and from that part's submenu, click on the parameter you want to replace with FM amount.

BRILLIANT!
Just tried it in the latest Live beta, works flawlessly. :) You learn something new every day! :)
