My dual core G5 tower can't handle a construction kit. CPU 80% and above.
Latin drums are usable but fairly hungry as well. 30-50%.
I've adjusted the buffer setting but that doesn't help.
I'm using the beta library exclusively and an Apogee Duet.
[dbu] Construction kits and CPU
Re: [dbu] Construction kits and CPU
Hi,
do you still have the same issues with the latest b20? What are your audio settings in Live's preferences?
Best,
Daniel

Re: [dbu] Construction kits and CPU
b20 is better.
'Loosely Flow' was the only kit that was still overtaxed.
At 512 samples most kits were running 50-75%.
It is time to upgrade the Mac no doubt, and I don't think an iMac
will be the answer.
I know this topic gets addressed now and then but in your experience will
I see gains in an 8 core architecture over a quad core.
I believe all the new Mac towers are implementing 'Nehalem' processors.
Having said that, is their a laptop that can handle a hungry piece of music?
I am not a DJ or an electronica enthusiast (I enjoy both however), I use Ableton Live instead of Pro Tools which by the way has an increased appetite as well.
Thanks for the response
No matter, I'll do what's necessary as I consider myself an Abletoner.

Re: [dbu] Construction kits and CPU
Upon further use I've reached the wall in several instances.
Too much for the dual G5.
I'd be interested in knowing what configurations of CPU are used at Ableton.
