where's my playhead gone in Live 4.01?

Post by Guest » Sat Jul 24, 2004 5:02 pm

I just upgraded from 3 to 4, and the first thing I notice when I open an old song is that the playhead has disappeared. Is this a bug or a new way of working? How do I play from any point in the arrangement view? (like I could in Live 1, 2, 3?)

In Live4 press Shift and click where you were used to click in Live3.

G5 dual 2GHz, Panther 10.3.4, Live 4.0.1

What is the reasoning behind having to press SHIFT as well as click to place the playhead?

I do this all the time whilst working in the ARRANGEMENT VIEW, and it's a real step backwards in 4.0.1.

I've had lots of crashes too. Serious lockups, frozen, need to turn off the G5. I'm not using any plugins, not REWIRING, just doing simple waveform cutting and pasting.

Frankly, I'm pretty pissed off at paying for LIVE 3 last October, not even getting a rocksolid 3.1 or 3.5 upgrade, and now having to fork out again for a buggy as hell version 4.

My friend has a G4 400 and he can't use the MIDI side of LIVE 4 because just using the drumkit hogs his processor for 80%. If he doesn't use the new MIDI side, he's fine.

I'd much prefer fewer new features in exchange for stability and more efficient use of the processor.

The screen redraws ONE CLIP AT A TIME, in ARRANGEMENT VIEW when you open a new track... and it takes a while. This is on a G5 dual 2GHz.

I suppose too many people complained about accidentaly placing the playhead when all they wanted to do was zooming.

Another reason could be to save screenspace.

Tip: Buy a two- or three- button mouse and define one of the mouse buttons as shift-click (btw. despite what is written in the manual, command-click and alt-click work as well). Having a multi- button mouse isn't a bad idea for other application either - I couldn't live without it.
