How are you people bridging the gap between a full arrangment view track, with effects, routings and sends, to a live performance?
I'm trying to collect ideas because I'm working on a live set.
The first thing that comes to mind is to burn a full mix omiting one or two parts that i can play live over the main track, that way i won't depend to heavily on my not so sturdy laptop. This will maybe even allow me to use Live as a vocal processor.
I'm not to sure.
Help.

Think first what you actually want to do live.
Makes no sense to make individual separated clips for each instrument and each part of your song if you later will always play them together and in the same order as playback, then better render an instrumental of your track and sing over it.
The TomCosm method is quite nice. He basically records a submix with 6 channels, cuts those arrangement-clips into segments and copies them over to session view; they play continously via follow actions, but it allows you to jump back into each part of the tune by using scenes, or to do recombinations of clips (e.g. kick from the intro + bass from part 2 + synths from part 4 etc.). Check for his step by step tutorial on his site.

i also made a method like tom cosm since a time, (only with 8 instead of 6 tracks)
but there`s no need for it in live 8. than u just make as much groups as you want to play with

Re: from arrangment to performance
agreed in a sense fieldy, but the good part about tom's method is it's all flattend audio, which saves on CPU and you can put different songs on the same channel
but the group tracks are awesome!

Re: from arrangment to performance
A quick question about the TomCosm method.
I often have tracks where a certain sound spans several parts of my track. For instance, there's a break, and when it starts building up again, a vocal sample plays, but the last note of that sample is on the first beat of the next part. So there is some overlap. Now if I were to play that part after another part which doesn't have the rest of that sample, it will sound out of place.
So how could I organize this so I don't accidentically trigger the wrong parts? Some of my songs have multiple sounds that overlap and sound out of place on their own.
Sorry for my wacky explenation, I'm not a native English speaker. I hope someone understands what I mean
Thanks.
