Hi
On the session view I'm using different effect chains inside a Audio Effect Rack placed in a return track so I can use specific sets of effects for different songs. Each song is launched by scenes, so I want to change the selected fx chain using scenes, but I don't know how to do this with clips that will launch with the scene.
I've tried mapping the chain selection to a macro but I can't find a way to control it from any kind of clip on the tracks that allow clips (midi and audio).
On a midi track I can select the output to be routed to the return track only if it has a VST plugin in it (native plugins don't show up), but then I can only send control messages to parameters of these plugins, but not to the rack.
Is there a way to do this? Is there a different way to select the chains in the return tracks with scenes?
Doing it by assigning an external controller to control the macro would make no sense because I need this to be done with scene launches.
Thanks for the help
Changing fx rack chains on return tracks
Re: Changing fx rack chains on return tracks
Hi Elpernyl,
you can do it with a midi clip sending out the data to a virtual bus (IAC on a mac or midi yoke on a pc, http://www.midiox.com/index.htm?http:// ... /myoke.htm)
Set up the IAC / Midi Yoke bus in Live´s Midi/Sync preferences like this:
- activate 'Remote' for the input port
- activate 'Track' for the output port
- Create a new Midi track and an empty Midi clip. In the 'Midi To' section select the virtual port.
- Open the envelope view, choose an unused Midi controller and draw in a value.
- Start the clip, then activate the Midi mapping mode.
- Click the Chain Selector in your Return track´s effect rack - it should then be mapped to the CC you´ve drawn into the clip (check the mapping browser if it mapped correctly)
- end the mapping mode. draw an accurate envelope to control the chain selector, create new clips, etc....
