Axiom 49 and Mackie u.420d driver conflict?

I've been having problems keeping M-Audio's Axiom 49 drivers on an even keel with Mackie's drivers for the u.420d in a state that doesn't require me reinstalling the drivers every session.
Does anyone know of any conflicts between these drivers? It seems that neither is very stable on it's own either.
At the very outside, I suspect my firewall may be the culprit. However, my firewall has a way of letting me know if it's blocked a certain aspect of my system and it never even bats an eye at installation or when Ableton is running.
I'll try installing the drivers without it loaded though, now that I think of it.
