Hey dude,
I'm gonna say this as I see it because thats just how I am. Its tough to just jump in and say "I want to make sounds like that" For one, it ain't too artistic, and maybe you aren't going for anything new, and i respect that, but try to make your own sounds.
Second, it takes a long time to figure out electronic music. The sound isn't just ONE VST that makes the sounds you love, its layer upon layer of great production skills mixed together. Bloody Beets (bob rifo at least) have been producing shit for the longestt time. Same with MSTRKRFT. Steve Aoki is kind of a tool.....don't know much about his production, but he released a CD of weaksauce mixing between other peoples songs......not too cool to release, I mean DJ's play great mixes every night, but he didn't really create anything new. Anyways I digress....
Read up on analog synthesis, get familiar with with the different types of synthesis, and modulation. I mean even if you weren't interested exclusively (I'm gonna assume you arent) in Electro, these things are good to learn. Check specifically subtractive synthesis for electro..(although art is art, don't limit yourself to what others are doing) Read a whole lot, cranking out a tune like the Bloody Beets won't happen overnight....which is why they are so special.
So I'd say start with a few VST's and really learn all the parameters...check out some Minimoog emulations, Juno emulations......I recently bought Circle, which is a semi-modular VST which is fantastic for learning the signal flow of audio. Key thing that I found when I was really impressed with a song was to break it down, get a pad and paper, and listen to the all the musical elements...regarless of if you know how to do them, write down what you HEAR, and go from that. Anything, panning, volumes, filters, drops, the works.
So if you want to make this your starting point, ill sum up:
Learn about synthesis
Modulation
Sidechain compression
gating
Learn ALL about filters
and finally, just do what you feel is right, not what you think others would want to hear. If you're down and dirty with that kinda music, I'm sure any kind of originality that'll come from your imagination will be awesome.

Electro? I'd read up on FM synthesis for filthy electro stuff.... but I'm no genre-expert...
I reckon everyone who wants to learn synth programming should check out Circle.
I personally think it sounds pretty weak, but its a great learning tool.

Yeah, FM and Subtractive are the big ones for electro......I'm pretty sure MSTRKRFT and the Bloody Beets use a whole lot of subtractive...
Circle is awesome....the stuff you can take from learning how to use it is really awesome. If your computer can handle it and you can turn the polyphony and voices up to a nice amount, the sounds are lush and fantastic....
Oh, to the OP, i forgot,
make sure you figure out LFO's
oh and what took me forever to figure out was, even if you get that nice sound....theres still a million little tedious things that you need to do to polish it....its not a preset-andyou'reset kinda game....lots of learning and tweaking. just mess around and read and experiment, you'll learn a ton!
