Just downloaded Live 8, good job Abletons, some features are really cool!
The one I was looking forward to was "improvement of 3rd party plug-in support", especially "Plug-In Configure Mode" - very nice, but I must say I'm not 100% happy with the implementation.
Basically, "Configure Mode allows you to customize Live's panel to show only the plug-in parameters
that you need to access" - very nice. BUT:
Breakpoints / envelope values have confusing measurement units - in arrangement view the breakpoints have values 0...1, while in clips the values are 0...100%. That's not too bad, just multiply arrangement view's fraction by 100 to have percent value in clip view, but the same controllers in device view have values as defined in the plug-in, for example, I have "gain" controller, which has range -6...40.
How am I supposed to how which value does envelope send to the plug-in, if in arrangement view I will see it as 0.68, in a clip as 68%, while the plug-in has -6...40 range?
At minimum, I would suggest to use consistent measurement units between arrangement and clip views, percentage, or 0...1, doesn't matter, but same in both views.
The desired way to show plug-in parameters would be to show the original plug-in values, for example -6...40 in breakpoints/envelopes in both arrangement and clip view. This would allow users to set plug-in values very precisely, as they are "expected" by the plug-in.
