Live 8 Crashes on VST directory Scan Everytime 100%

Post by fredlox » Sat Apr 04, 2009 6:20 pm

I can't even tell which plug in is causing the problem for the scan stops showing which plug in is being scanned in the status bar at the bottom of the Live 8 window..

Seems to stop around somewhere where plug ins start with a "p" in there name..

for when i reopen live 8 after a crash of a VST scan the last VST showing in the VST browser starts with the letter "P"..

I just installed it and did not have any issues... but I haven't tried loading any of my VSTi's at this point. I hope to spend some time with it this coming week. But in regards to install I didn't run into any issues and can go to the folder from the browser and scroll down and see the instruments there. Were you doing a re-scan or what? I set up the library in its own directory as well so as not to mess with anything from Live 7's library. That is a bit of a pain with regards to initially telling it where to put it vs updating existing library. Could have been a bit smoother IMHO.

The same thing was happening to me. Send the crash report and crash text to [email protected]

I tried a bunch of different things but it turned out my version of effectrix was outdated. I downloaded the newest version and live is running smooth again.

Give them an email. IT will save you a lot of time and frustration trying to figure out what is wrong on your own.

I had a problem with Sampletank crashing, after emailing Ableton it turns out running Live as administrator (right click on the Live icon and click 'Run as administrator') solves the problem. Perhaps this will help with your issue.

For what it's worth, I found Running as Administrator worked for me as well. When some VSTs are loaded for the very first time, they try to create some directories and files for patches, etc, under the VST directory where they're stored -- which usually is in Program Files and requires administrator permission.

So I started Live as Administrator, loaded all my VSTs at least once in the untitled set, and from then on could start Live normally and use any of the VSTs.
