Template.als in 4.01

I installed 4.0.1. Where is the Preference directory? It is not in the program folder.

I want to copy my Edirol PCR30 template.als to 4.0.1 but I can not.

I can't map my Edirol PCR30 B1 to B4 keys to solo tracks 1-4 button manually. I mean it works in a funny way. I have to press each button twice to toggle the solo button. This works fine in 3.0.4.

Yes, I am using a cc number for the B1 to B4 buttons. It is CC 81.

Create or load a file that you'd like as your template. Edit it to your liking. Then in preferences, set that as your template.

I found where 4.0.1 actually keep its template.als file. The new manual does not point to the right location.

Anyway, with 3.0.4, the midi mappings work fine but in 4.0.1, I now need to press the B1 to B4 buttons on my Edirol PCR30 twice to toggle the solo button on tracks 1 to 4 in session view. This is strange. In 3.0.4, I press it once and the solo button goes on and press it again, it goes off. In 4.0.1, I need to press it twice to turn it on and then twice to turn solo off.

What is causing this in 4.0.1?

I can confirm this strange feature too, exactly as Gene Ess descibes.

If I assign an L1, L2 or L3 button on the PCR30 to a solo button on a Live Track I only have to press the button once for on and once for off.

The problem with the B buttons on the PCR30 seems to be linked /related to the new Solo implementation in Live 4.

For example, after double clicking B1 to get Track 1 in Live to Solo I only have to click B2 once to get Solo 2 to come on (with Solo 1 still on) and B3 once to get Solo 3 to join in etc etc.

However disabling the Solo Exclusive preference in Live makes no difference to the B button behaviour from what I can see.

Having experimented a bit more it seems there is something unusual with the Solo preference button in Lives preferences and using the PCR30.

With the Solo preference Enabled you are only permitted to solo one track at a time and that is what happens when using the mouse to select solo buttons.

However when using the B buttons on the PCR30 you can select multiple solo tracks despite the Solo preference being Enabled.

This behaviour is replicated if you assign keys on the computer keyboard to the Solo buttons as well.

I assume that is not what was planned..??

I assume that the idea of the Solo preference was that it would behave the same regardless of whether the Solo buttons were selected by a mouse or a MIDI controller or a keyboard assignment.

Is my assumption correct.

Can anyone with a MIDI controller other than a PCR30 replicate this behaviour ??

After checking the actual value sent out (in this case 0 and 127), I was able to find a solution.

By changing the latch characteristics of B buttons on PCR30, I can now toggle the solo buttons with 1 press.

It seems that the solo button requires a 127 to turn off and on. The 0 does not do anything. In 3.0.4, 127 turned it on and 0 turned it off.

Anyway, it is working now and am back to the music.

It seems that turning Solo buttons on/off with the buttons assigned to keys does work as per the Solo preference in Live.

It must have been the case that once you used the B buttons on the PCR30 with the Latch values of 127 and 0 that caused the behaviour to go strange.

So for me I will just assign the Solo buttons to keys rather than change the Latch values to both 127 for the B buttons in the PCR30.

Alls well that ends well..........
