'Suite' v 'Standard' - size of instal?

Post by wildcon » Sun Apr 05, 2009 4:55 pm

Hi,

I'm considering going the whole hog and getting the Live 8 suite as opposed to the
standard Live 8 update.

I'm not massively fussed about the instruments but sampler and collision may
swing it for me.

Anyhow - here's the possible problem.

How much bigger is the install as I'm very tight for space on my laptop.

I was just about okay with the Beta, but I assume that is not the full instal (samples etc)
I guess I could keep most of the samples on an external drive?

Cheers

The full size of Live 8.0.1 Suite's Library with all optional live packs installed, including the Live 7 legacy package is 46 GB.

The program files size has gone up considerably because a lot of packages seem to be saved (for the library repair feature I guess?).

On Live 7.0.5 the program folder size is 355 MB
For my Live 8.0.1 program folder it is 1.4 GB (the Default Packages folder holding the live packs is over 1GB)

I'm in a similar situation....but I've already bought the Suite 8 Box and I can get all the downloadable parts on my laptop. But, when the box/disks get here I won't have room on my internal drive for all the samples and stuff for session drums (which I'm assuming is where most of the rest of the many gigs will come from (and I guess EIC2).

So, does anyone know if I can load the session drums samples on my external drive? And if so, could I keep the library, except for the session drums on my internal drive....or would I need to move the whole library to my external drive?

Thanks!

Hi,

Thanks for the response.

That probably blows it for me.

Check my other post about the Latin Drums library.

Apparently all the samples etc need to be in the 'Library'.

This is fine for me at the moment as I mainly use NI stuff which allows the samples to be
held on a seperate drive(s) and in seperate folders.

There's no way I can get 46 gig on my laptop drive and assuming the above is correct, moving samples for the live 8 stuff will render them unusable!

I'll post a query to the Ableton guys, but this is a real let down.

Hi guys,

you can have various librries. I have one on my macbook, and another one containing bigger samples packs on the external harddrive. You can select the library you wish to work with in the preferences. So the best way for you guys would be:

- make a copy of your existing library onto your external harddrive, call it "library2" (or whatever).

-Open live, select libary2 as your library in preferences

-install all the big things, as EIC, session drums, latin drums etc into library2

Done.

Now when you have the external you can use everything, and when you don't have it conncted you can use your old library.

Thanks pepezabala,

That's a great idea and something I might not have thought about. I'll gave that a try with the "big" library.

Thanks!

Hi pepezabala,

Thanks for the tip.

I guess the only issue would be to make sure any clips etc that are made
during a session are copied to the relevant directory?

Cheers
